Kankakee Downs Mercer In Championship Game

ENID, OK - June 2, 2017 - No. 7 Kankakee (IL) defeated No. 4 Mercer County (NJ) 11-5 to take the 2017 NJCAA Div. II World Series Championship! It is their first baseball championship. A packed house watched a great game on a night that couldn't have been any better for baseball.

Kankakee finishes its championship season with a 54-11-1 record. The Cavilers accumulated a tournament record 78 total runs in seven tournament games, which included scoring double-digit runs in five straight games. Mercer County ends its championship runner-up season with a 48-14 record.

Mercer defeated Lansing 9-2 and Kankakee defeated Parkland 13-3 on Thursday to propel both teams into the NJCAA Div. II World Series Championship Game on Friday night at David Allen Memorial Ballpark in Enid, Oklahoma.

4 teams were left on Thursday and they all had 1 loss in this double elimination tournament. The two teams that won Thursday will play a winner-take-all game Friday night. There will not be a need for a Saturday game.

May 27, 2017 - The top 10 junior college baseball teams come to Enid, Oklahoma to compete for the 2017 NJCAA DII World Series Championship. Games begin May 27 and run thru June 3, 2017 at David Allen Memorial Ballpark, 301 S. Grand.

Tournament passes are $50 include admission to all games. Single-game tickets for adults are $7, students are $5 and 12 and under are free. Military are admitted free and Senior citizens get two adult tickets for the price of one.

Tickets and World Series merchandise are available for purchase at the ballpark or at Visit Enid - 201 W. Garriott Rd, Enid OK – 1-877-999-ENID (3643). The Enid Welcome Center is located three blocks south and one block west of the ballpark.

Opening Day events will be on Friday, May 26. The day will begin at 9:00am with an FCA breakfast at the stadium. The team dinner will be at 5:00pm where the teams will be fed in the street. Opening ceremonies start at 6:30pm with a home run derby and the introduction of the teams. Opening night ceremonies are free.

The annual Enid Fire vs. Enid Police softball game is at 8:00pm. Get out and support these visiting teams and make sure Enid continues to score this great event.
