Niles, Sharp Win Elections

ENID, Okla. - Republican voters went to the polls for local primaries. With 28,077 registered voters in Garfield County as of January 15, 2016 it was disappointing to see that just under 6,000 voted in the county.

Jerry Niles was elected for a second term as the Garfield County Sheriff. Niles defeated his Republican challenger Cory Rink with 58.54% of the vote. With no other opponent he automatically becomes sheriff.

Janelle Sharp defeated Sharon Veach for Garfield County court clerk with 71.50% of the vote. She also will not face an opponent in the general election and automatically becomes court clerk.

Senate District 19 will require a runoff August 23 since neither Roland Pederson or Ross Vanhooser received the required 50% needed to lock up the Republican primary. Pederson received 48.87% with 4,311 votes while Vanhooser received 3,559 votes. Greg Ingle came in third.

Republicans elected incumbent Rep. Frank Lucas for Oklahoma’s 3rd Congressional District over Desiree Brown in the GOP primary.
