Vance Recognizing National Police Week

ENID, Okla. - Members from the 71st Security Forces Squadron at Vance were running around town this morning to mark the beginning of National Police Week at Vance. The run totaled 11 miles.

The observance is a collaborative effort of many organizations dedicated to honoring America's law enforcement community. This week Defenders will join civilian law enforcement agencies from across the region for events in the name of solidarity and professional partnerships.

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as Police Week. Currently, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
