Nancy Walker Martin

The come and go celebration of life for Nancy Walker Martin will be held at Panevino from 2PM to 4PM.on Thursday, December 29, 2016.

Nancy was born November 25, 1943 in Oklahoma City to Fredrick and Gwendolyn (Orput) Walker and died at her home on Christmas day surrounded by her family. She grew up with a simple life in downtown Oklahoma City with her parents, her older sister Fredrica and younger brother John. She was the all-sports Queen of Central High School where she graduated with the class of 1961. She loved telling stories about her early work at Kaisers Ice Cream Shop and the Cattleman’s Restaurant. She attended OSU and earned a Bachelor’s in Business Administration.

Her first marriage brought her two daughters. Her second marriage to John Martin brought a step-son to a joyous partnership that lasted for 38 years until her death. She and John worked side by side in their business, Martin Agency Insurance.

She was sharp-witted, unapologetically liberal, and generous in word and action. She was a keen observer of society and enjoyed spending time with good company rapt in thoughtful conversation. She was a member of PEO Chapter DB. She dedicated much time throughout her life to volunteering for a variety of different organizations.

She is survived by her husband John, of the home, her daughters, Romy Owens of OKC and Jennifer Owens-Haines, son-in-law Brent, and grandson Ben Walker Haines of Wylie, TX. her step-son Chris Martin of Mustang, OK, and a brother, John William Walker of Temple, TX. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Fredrica.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to Loaves and Fishes, Hospice Circle of Love, the Enid Arts Council, the Regional Heritage Center, the YWCA of Enid or Planned Parenthood.
