Mary Schmitz

Mary Schmitz, born Mary Rose Rezac, 67, of Wakita Oklahoma passed from this world on April 16, 2019 at the Kiowa District Hospital. She was born the daughter of George and Helen (Bruey) Rezac on January 4, 1952 in Anthony, Kansas.

Mary grew up and graduated high school in Caldwell, Kansas. She married the love of her life, Chuck Schmitz, on January 24, 1970 at St Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Caldwell, Kansas. They lived and raised their family in Wakita, Oklahoma, and Mary always said how lucky she was to have been blessed with her two daughters.
-
Over the years Mary enjoyed hosting events and making Chuck go dancing. For almost twenty years, Mary loved working with the Roustabouts of Northern Oklahoma College, serving as their choreographer and performing as a special guest occasionally as they travelled. She proudly served as Wakita’s Postmaster for nearly fifteen years. Mary’s favorite holiday was Christmas and if it was up to her, it would be celebrated all year long. Mary was highly involved throughout many aspects of her community, serving whenever and wherever needed. Her favorite way to serve was offering her beautiful vocal skills to her church and community in every event. She is now singing alongside the angels. She loved to perform and took every opportunity to do so, and as Chuck says….we could go on and on listing all of her singing events til we are blue in the face. Where there is a will, there is a way and Mary embodied this statement daily. The word disabled was never a word in her vocabulary and if told she couldn’t do something, she would find a way to prove it wrong. She was an incredible wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was an inspiration to many.
-
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Blanche Hunt and Nita Miller.
-
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Chuck Schmitz; brothers, Dwayne Ronson and Ed (Dani) Rezac; daughters, Jesselyn Schmitz-Nakolo and Andrea (Jason) Cowherd, and four grandchildren, Ethan, Hunter, Laken, and Ella.
