Marjory B. Mewherter (McNeill)

A Celebration of Life Service for Marjory B. Jordan Mewherter age 98 of Enid will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at Central Christian Church Chapel with Rev. Tom Stanley and Rev. Don Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Marshall Lions Cemetery, Marshall, OK under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Marjory was born September 21, 1921 on the farm southwest of Mulhall, OK. She was the daughter of Louis and Ruth (Thompson) McNeill, the youngest of six children. She graduated from Mulhall High School in 1938, when she was 16 years old. In 1943 she graduated from Central State Teaching College, now University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond with a lifetime teaching degree. Her first teaching job was at Elkhorn School in Logan County, a one room country school where she taught all eight grades. Other schools where she taught were Mt. Zion, Big Four, Hayward, Hunter, and Hennessey. She retired in 1982 after 30 years. She was always proud that there were 3 generations of teacher in the family, Maxine, Jamie, and herself.

She married Glen Jordan on November 26, 1943 in Chandler, OK. They had 2 children Maxine and Larry Jordan. Glen died January 5, 1975. Later she married Allan Mewherter. After retirement they moved to a ranch in Arkansas, where they raised cattle. Allan passed away in 1989.
Marjory then moved back to Guthrie, OK to be near her two older sisters. She lived there until moving to Enid to be near her daughter and granddaughter and great grandchildren. She was affectionately called “Granny Great” by her great grandchildren, and Auntie Mom by her nephew Tom Evans.

Marjory is survived by her daughter, Maxine Shepard and husband Jim of Enid, son Larry Jordan and wife Paulina of Beggs, OK, 3 grandchildren; Lannette Schneeberg of Broken Arrow, OK, Jamie Jarnagin and husband Jason of Enid, John Jordan and Katie of Tulsa, Mark K. Ford, Brandy N.Ford, Mitchell K. Lightner, Myles Lightner, Bianca Lightner, great grandchildren; Austin and Sierra Jarnagin, Colby Jarnagin, Cooper Jarnagin all of Enid, Alissa Schneeberg of Broken Arrow, Bryan, Rayena, Brea, and Daria, great-great grandson Hunter Jarnagin and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents 5 siblings and 2 husbands.

Memorials may be made to Central Christian Church with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodians of the funds.
