LGE Raising Funds for Downtown Speaker System

ENID, OK - Leadership Greater Enid Class XXXII is excited to host this year’s LGE Benefit Golf Tournament. The day of camaraderie and fundraising will be Friday, April 21, 2023 at Meadowlake Golf Course with both AM & PM flights available. LGE Class XXXII has a goal of raising $52,000 and has selected Main Street Enid to be this year's beneficiary.

Enid's downtown district is the heart of our community and Class XXXII is excited for the continuing revitalization of the district. Main Street Enid hosts events throughout the year such as First Fridays and Enid Lights Up the Plains. Other annual downtown events such as the Cherokee Strip Parade, Tri-State Parade, and many more will all benefit from this project.

An additional benefit of the audio system would include but not limited to creating ambience throughout the center of the district, emergency service announcements, and be available to other organizations that choose to host events in Downtown Enid. After tournament expenses, 20 percent of the funds raised will be directly contributed to Leadership Greater Enid to assist with continued growth of the organization. The remaining 80 percent will be designated to Main Street Enid for this audio speaker system.

Representatives from Class XXXII stated, “as community members, we are thrilled to give back to our Main Street program and we can't wait to see and hear the newly integrated sound system!”

This annual golf event is made possible through the generous support and donations from many local businesses. The class is still looking for sponsorships and participating teams. If you are interested in sponsoring or reserving your spot in the tournament, contact LGE or Main Street Enid. Also throughout the month of April, Enid Axe will be hosting a raffle for a chance to win a One Day Duck Hunt at The Island Ranch. A one $10 entry gives you three throws for a chance to win more tickets to add to the raffle. You can also enter the raffle by purchasing the daily specials from Sombria Chocolate Company or Kristi’s Kitchen.

After the tournament, the LGE class will continue celebrating and raising funds at a special Downtown Block Party from 6:00pm to 10:00pm at Enid Axe, 100 block of N. Independence with live DJ, food trucks, a silent auction, and more.

Leadership Greater Enid (LGE) is a leadership program established in 1990. It selects, challenges, develops, and educates citizens in the greater Enid area who have demonstrated an interest in local issues. The program is designed to be a series of issue-oriented forums and experiences, which are based on the belief that knowledge is a key element and prime motivator of leadership.

I am all for Downtown! But I think $52,000 for a Speaker system is overkill for ambience, and it could be done for much less with a little shopping. We already have a siren system for Emergency. And all of the mentioned events have portable systems that have worked until now. There are other improvements that could be done. Working to block the street and make a “European-esque” shopping and dining “street” and improvement upon that would be money better spent.
