Larry W. Payne

May 27, 1958 - April 29, 2021

Celebration of Life Service for Larry Payne, 62 of Enid, will be Friday, May 7, 2021 at 2:00 pm in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.

Larry W. Payne was born on May 27, 1958 in Enid Oklahoma to Glen E. Payne and Anna Marie Hutcheson Payne. He passed away in Oklahoma City after a long courageous battle with cancer on April 29, 2021.

Larry grew up in the Enid area, attending Pleasant Vale elementary and then moved to the Breckinridge area where he graduated from Garber High School in 1976. He was active in FFA and played on the baseball and football teams.

Larry worked the wheat harvest his whole life and as an adult he drove semis and worked construction with his Dad and Brother. He retired from the Ames Co-Op elevator after his diagnosis at age 60.

Larry enjoyed music of all types. For a short time, he even worked as a DJ at a local radio station. He loved performing music and played in several bands, most notably he played guitar and sang with the band Springwater.

Larry was always quick witted, ready with a smile and a suggestion of some devilish ornery idea. Larry robbed banks in the Simpson movies and participated in old west shootouts with Half-Cocked & Company. Larry made a fantastic bad guy.

Larry was an avid sports fan and much of his down time was spent watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball, OU football, Thunder basketball and NASCAR.

Larry kept a very upbeat attitude throughout his fight and was able to maintain his appetite and his hairline which he usually covered with a hat. Larry dealt well with his treatments and was always ready to do whatever the Doctors suggested.

Larry’s sense of humor and readiness with a glowing smile and the evil sparkle in his eyes will be missed by all who knew him. He will be remembered fondly and there will be many stories retold for years to come.

Larry is survived by his wife Karen Payne of the home, sons Jeff of Oklahoma City (Jessica Scott) and David Sweet of Ada, daughter Becki Jines of Crescent (Chris LaRue), father Glen, sisters Peggy Jeter and Barbara Bennett, and brother Billy all of Enid. Larry was also blessed with grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his mother Anna Marie, sister Paula Nagel and brothers-in-law Bobby Jeter and Luther Bennett.
