Kite Fliers Convention Being Held In Enid

ENID, OK - AKA will hold its 44th National Convention October 9-14, 2023, in Enid, Oklahoma. This will be their third convention in Enid, and will feature great flying fields, new facilities, and expanded People’s Choice Competition, a Kite Art Gallery, and much, much more.

One of the most supportive communities in the country for all things kiting, Enid is famous for its large mowed-grass kite fields. Enid’s state-of-the-art Convention Center, Stride Bank Center, has ample space for all our workshops, banquets, meetings, gatherings and one of the best indoor flying spaces you have ever experienced. Enid is blessed with great kite flying weather in October with temperatures averaging 65 to 72 degrees and winds 12 to 19 mph out of the southwest.

Kite fliers will be flying kites at Richard Dermer Memorial Flying Field, 1201 W Willow, behind Autry Tech. There will be a mass ascension of kites on Tuesday, October 10 around 1:00pm. There will also be professional kite fliers flying kites in the afternoon throughout the week. Take a chair and enjoy the kites.

The AKA will have a kite auction on Friday, October 13 at 7:00pm at the Stride Bank Center, 302 S. Grand. You will be able to bid on some great kites, accessories and kite related items.

The public will have the opportunity to make a kite on Saturday, October 14 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Professional kite fliers will help you fly them.

There will also be an annular solar eclipse on Saturday! The annular solar eclipse will last for 3 hours in Enid peaking at 11:47am. Get out and watch the kites during the eclipse.
