Karyn Marie Brunken

December 30, 1942 - March 15, 2024

Karyn Marie (Jensen) Brunken was born December 30, 1942, in Mapleton, Utah to Elmo M. and Margaret Victoria (Bertoglio) Jensen. She passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024, at Garland Road Nursing & Rehab Center in Enid, Oklahoma.

Karyn was a 1961 graduate of Agua Fria Union High School in Avondale, Arizona. She attended beauty college in Arizona and worked for a number of years at Violet’s Beauty Shop in Garber, Oklahoma.

On April 21, 1965, she and Ray L. Brunken were married in Prague, Oklahoma. She became an instant mom to two daughters, Cindy and Christy. In 1968, their son Randy was born to complete their family.

Karyn was a stay-at-home mom until her children were grown. She worked as a clerk and store manager with Love’s Convenience Store before embarking on a 25-year career with Enid Property Management working as a secretary and bookkeeper. She retired from EPM in 2008. From 2008-2017, she was employed at The Uniform Stop.

She was involved with the Oklahoma Jayceettes/Jaycee Women from the mid-1970s to mid-1980s, serving as state president in 1980-1981. She traveled across the state and served as a delegate to the National Convention.

Karyn was a long-time member of The Athenian Club in Garber. She was also a member of the Christian Church of the Covenant in Enid where she served as a deacon, volunteered with the Tootie Fruity Program and participated in the Sarah Circle.

She loved to do embroidery and counter cross-stitch, putting love into every stitch on every project for family, friends and loved ones. She was a member of the Sassy Stitchers Quilting Group and Sod House Quilting Guild.

Karyn is survived by her son, Randy Brunken of Enid; two daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Derr of Enid and Christy Wheeland of Wagoner; her bonus son, Jeremy Upshaw; her grandchildren, Caylee (Ale) Ramirez of Hennessey, Cory (Tommy) Bohnstedt of Hennessey, Victoria (Skilar) Miller of Stillwater and Dustin Wymore of Waukomis; seven great-grandchildren, Dagan, Dru, Jensen and Mason Wymore, Anastasia and Hardy Bohnstedt and Sophia Miller; one brother, Pete Jensen of Claremore and extended family, Jan and Tom Hancock, five nieces, one nephew and bonus grandchildren, Michael Wheeland and Michelle Wheeland.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Elmo Jensen and Margaret and Randy Bittle; one brother, Don Jensen; one sister, Ann Jensen and her children’s father, Ray L. Brunken.

Graveside service for Karyn will be 10:00 AM, Monday March 18, 2024 at Covington Cemetery with Jeremy Upshaw officiating. Visitation is Sunday 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Anderson Burris Funeral Home. Memorials may be made through Anderson Burris to OMRF or Valir Hospice.
