He was born in Fort Sill, OK to Jack O. Felt and Wynnelle Hewitt Felt on August 15, 1940. John was raised in a military family traveling to many bases during his fathers Air Force career. When his father retired in 1954 John began attending Enid Public Schools graduating with the class of 1959. He excelled in sports in high school and played football, basketball, and track. His athletic ability provided him the opportunity to attend the University of Oklahoma on a Track and Field scholarship.

On June 3, 1961 he married the love of his life Cheryl Ann Evans of Enid. From this union they had one son, John Patrick Jr. John and Cheryl were married 55 years.

John was a long time active member of the First Baptist Church joining in 1966. He was a strong devout Christian who enjoyed serving his church on various church committees, his membership in the men’s Sunday School class, and socializing with church friends after Sunday Services.

John was a 33 Degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Enid Masonic Lodge #80. He was a Shriner of the Akdar Shrine and a member of the Enid Shrine Club.

John was very proud of his 47 years of service to Vance AFB where he was dedicated to providing services to the Air Force customer. Working for various contractors over his career he retired under Trend Western in 2006 as the Superintendent of Transportation. John was most proud of his work with safety and his contribution to championing the mandatory use of seat belts while driving on base.

Upon retirement John enjoyed playing golf with his buddies Lane Benham, Bob Hill, and Vaughn Sells several times a week. He was also an avid bowler who dearly loved the game. He was a member of three leagues, inducted into the Enid Bowling Hall of Fame, and the Oklahoma State Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a life member of the American Bowling Congress, going to many tournaments and serving on their Boards.

John was a St. Mary’s Volunteer where you could find him driving the Saints Mobile on Wednesday mornings along with his wife until his health forced him to take a leave of absence.
