Honey Dee a Throwback to Saturday Morning Cartoons

A Buzz Head you should know

How did a cartoon character named Honey Dee end up on Enid Buzz? The current mastermind behind the character is James Rumpf who has been working with Curtis Tucker, creator of Enid Buzz, for ten years on assorted cartoon projects.

guysRumpf grew up with a father that was closely connected to carton royalty. James Rumpf Sr. was the business partner of Joe Oriolo in the early 1980's. Joe Oriolo was best known as the creator of Casper the Friendly Ghost and producer of Felix the Cat. They collaborated on a project called, "The Adventures of Professor Beetoven", that was televised on HBO in 1985.

Oriolo created a series of characters for the show which included the Honey Dee character. Oriolo's son Don, who now draw Felix the Cat, was the marketing arm of the group. After the death of Joe Oriolo in 1985, James Rumpf Sr. ended up buying the rights to the characters from Oriolo. Upon his death the characters were passed on the James Rumpf II.

Being an entrepreneur, Rumpf began looking for ways to turn the iconic characters into different streams of revenue. While scouring the Internet in the mid 90's he ran across a fellow cartoon entrepreneur named Curtis Tucker, who was making a living with cartoon characters from Enid, Oklahoma.

The two struck up an online partnership working on several cartoon ventures over the past decade. Tucker eventually went on to create Enid Buzz while Rumpf honed in on one character to promote. Today, Rumpf spends his time concentrating on promoting Honey Dee and bringing her image to the masses.

Tucker has worked on multiple images of Honey Dee over the years and is looking into a Honey Dee Enid Buzz design. Rumpf has become a fan of Enid having kept up with the city through Tucker and Enid Buzz. Rumpf compares Honey Dee to a wholesome version of Daisy Duke. "She's a fun character that lives the country lifestyle which appeals to both kids and adults," Rumpf said.

appRumpf has developed a free mobile app called That 80s App. Honey Dee adorns the 80s trivia game which asks questions about the 80's. It's a multiple choice game with very cool 80s backgrounds that change every 3 questions. It is fun for kids and adults. It's a free download on iTunes. Here's the iTunes link to more info about the app.

Honey Dee also has her own line of t-shirts with more family friendly designs on the way. These are American made t-shirts under $20. Support a fellow Buzz Head when you need to find a fun American design to give as a gift.
