Helen Nobis

A memorial service for Helen Nobis, age 78, of Enid, will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, April 12, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. Kenneth Wade officiating. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.

Helen was born November 16, 1938, in Bakersfield, CA, to Leonard Walter and Hertha Louise (Stahmer) Benkendorf and passed away on Saturday, April 8, 2017, in Enid.

Helen attended school in Bakersfield, CA, Drummond, and later graduated in 1956 from Hennessey High School. She attended Oklahoma College for Women, Chickasha, and Oklahoma State University, where she graduated with a BSE in 1960. Helen married Donald Dean Nobis on April 22, 1961, in University City, Missouri. She taught elementary school in St. Louise, MO, Pattonville, MO, Ferguson-Florissant, MO, and Scottsboro, AL. They were both lifelong Lutherans. Helen was active in the LWML, the New Comers Womens Group in Alabama, and AAUW. In 2004 they moved to Enid, and joined St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

Helen is survived by her husband, Don; children Leschen Hamner (Michael) of Alabama, Eric Nobis of Texas; daughter in law Sharon Nobis of Texas; grandchildren James Hamner (Chelsea) of Florida, Lindsay Hamner of Alabama, Tyler Nobis, Taylor Otto (Andrew), and Trevor Nobis all of Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son Richard Nobis, sister Mildred Eberhart, and brother Stanley Stahmer.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church
