Glenda Marie Boyle Burdg was born May 12, 1931, in Laverne, Oklahoma to Carter Glen and Sylvia Ochle (Duvall) Boyle. She joined her older sisters, Louise (Hoskins), and Lois (Venable) and two years later welcomed their little sister, Letha (Schulz). Glenda graduated from Waukomis High School in 1948 where she was a class officer and May Queen.
While working at the Enid Bus Station as a ticket agent in 1951, she met her future husband, Howard Burdg. She turned down his requests for a date for a long time, and when she finally agreed, they were married three months later on December 18, 1951. They initially moved to Denver, and then Leadville, Colorado when Howard worked in the mines at Climax. Their daughter, Jolene, was born September 20, 1953. They moved back to Oklahoma in 1956 and settled in Oklahoma City for several years, eventually returning to Enid. From 1974 until 2000, she and Howard lived in Carmen and at one time, they owned and operated Southgate Lanes in Cherokee. She enjoyed league bowling and made many good friends through the bowling alley. Hosting family get-togethers at the bowling alley for holidays and birthdays brought her much happiness. All three of their granddaughters (Nicci, Glenn and Lauren) were born during the time she resided in Carmen, but she was in Enid at the hospital to greet each of them when they arrived. The girls all have cherished memories of their time in Carmen and later at Grandma’s Enid home. She always made each of them feel special and loved. Glenda was selfless and served her family in so many ways, putting her needs second because her family was her joy. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always found their favorite foods in her kitchen and card games in her hall closet. She loved spending time with them and took many trips with them, attended their dance recitals, band competitions, pageants, and graduations without fail. She treasured being a great-grandmother and her home was filled with photographs of Gabriel, Amita and Emersyn.
Glenda was diagnosed with dementia in 2016. Her disease progressed slowly at first but by 2021, her condition required care that Howard could no longer provide alone and she moved to Greenbrier Village. The love and care she received from the staff at Greenbrier was beyond measure. She departed this life on November 7, 2023 and was reunited with Howard who died December 24, 2022.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jolene and Wesley Gray, granddaughters Nicci (Chris) Crowley Cortez, CO, Glenn (Michael) Brown Oklahoma City, OK, Lauren (Corey) Keller, Enid, OK; great-grandchildren Gabriel and Amita Crowley and Emersyn Brown, Letha Schulz, Kathy Burdg, Roger and Karen Burdg, Judy Hodson, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral service for Glenda Burdg will be 4:00 PM, Monday, November 13, 2023 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Devon Krause officiating. Memorials may be made in her name to Youth & Family Services of North Central Oklahoma.
