Gaslight Theatre Presents Once

ENID, OK - Tickets are now on sale for Gaslight Theatre’s 2023 summer musical, Once, running July 21-23 and 28-29.

The story of Once centers around a worn-down and disillusioned Dublin busker, who finds himself within a hair’s breadth of abandoning his songwriting ambitions altogether. That is, until he meets her- a serious, no-nonsense Czech immigrant with a passion for life and music, who recognizes his pain and throws him a much-needed lifeline of hope.

Based on the 2007 film of the same name by John Carney, Once was first reimagined for the stage in a 2011 workshop at American Repertory Theatre in Cambridge, MA before transferring to the New York Theatre Workshop and eventually to Broadway in early 2012. The show was an immediate success, garnering eight Tony Awards including Best Musical.

Highlighting songs from the critically acclaimed film with music and lyrics by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová, including the Oscar-winning "Falling Slowly,” the stage version also features a book by acclaimed Irish playwright, Enda Walsh.

In the spirit of the original stage production, Gaslight’s vision features a supremely talented cast of actor/singer/musicians who weave a beautiful tapestry of music and storytelling that will leave audiences spellbound. Leading the creative team are Jason Maly, director, Sean Gallagher, music director, and Angela Gallagher, choreographer.

“I’ve been in love with this show since I first saw it on Broadway in 2012,” said Maly. “I was absolutely mesmerized, and am so thrilled to be bringing this beautiful piece of musical theatre to the Gaslight stage. It’s a celebration of love, life and music that is absolutely transcendent.”

Tickets for Once can be purchased by calling the theatre box office at (580) 234-2307, or online at gaslighttheatre.org. Performance dates are July 21-22 and 28-29 at 7:30 pm, and on Sunday July 23 at 2:00 pm. The theatre is located at 221 N. Independence in Enid.

This production is sponsored by Park Avenue Thrift Enid, along with ongoing support from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
