Enid Swimmer Competes In Olympic Team Trials

ENID, OK - On Sunday, May 16 Micah Chambers of the Aquatic Club of Enid secured his first ever Olympic Trials wave 1 qualifying time in the 50 meter freestyle with a 22.79 just missing the state record of 22.77, and the wave 2 cut of 22.71. The qualifying time for the Olympic Trials wave 1 is a 23.19.

Micah swam a 22.95 to place 12th in the men’s 50 meter freestyle at the wave 1 Olympic Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska on Monday morning, June 7. Monday night Micah finished 6th in the consolation final for an overall placing of 14th out of 93 in the men’s 50 meter freestyle.

Samuel Stewart is the Head Coach of the Aquatic Club of Enid and helped prepare Micah for the trials. Although he came up short this is a huge boost and leap forward for Enid competitive swimming.

If he had been able to either get a 22.71 or finish in the top 2 he would have moved on to the wave 2 meet held June 13-20 (also in Omaha) where he would have gotten a shot at making the Olympic team by finishing in the top 2.

Micah has swam for the Aquatic Club of Enid for the last 6 years and has just finished his freshman year swimming at the university of Tennessee where he made it to the NCAA National championships in March for 4 relays, and just missed making it individually by .12 of a second.
