Cynthia Rae Dougherty

Cynthia Rae Ferguson Dougherty of Weatherford, Oklahoma died peacefully in her home on Monday, April 29th, 2019. Cindy is survived by her husband Chuck Dougherty, her children Tyler Dougherty and Casey Gibson. Additionally, Cindy has 5 grandchildren, Erica (22), Drew (19), Charli (9), Layla (6), and Baylee (3) and thousands of former students who loved and adored her. Cindy is also survived by her mother Joan Ferguson of Hydro, brother Greg Ferguson, and sister Sharon Armstrong.

Cindy was raised in Enid, Oklahoma and graduated from Enid High School in 1973. After high school Cindy earned her undergraduate degree from Phillips University and her Master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma. Cindy was the Dean of Admissions at Phillips University, Dean of Students at Chapman University in Orange County, California, CEO of the National Benevolent Association in St. Louis, Missouri and the Dean of Students at SWOSU in Weatherford, Oklahoma. Cindy was a nationally recognized speaker who spoke and advocated for charitable organizations across the nation. The greatest joys in Cindy’s life came from her family and from helping her students develop, grow, and persevere. Cindy’s willingness to help others and her positivity will be greatly missed.

There will be a memorial service on Friday, May 3rd, 2019 at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church in Weatherford. Following the memorial service, a reception will be held at the home of Mike and Debbie Brown, 1219 Sycamore St, Weatherford. It was Cindy’s wish that people dress casually for these events.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Dean Cindy Dougherty Memorial Fund at the SWOSU Foundation, Inc. Checks may be made payable to ‘SWOSU Foundation’ with ‘Cindy Dougherty’ noted in the memorandum line and mailed to:
