North Cleveland Is Open!

ENID, OK - Construction on North Cleveland just south of Chestnut is still in process but the road has been opened! Crews put the final temporary touches on the intersection and the north and south bound lanes are now open to traffic.

Cleveland traffic is now being diverted to the newly constructed west lanes north of Chestnut Avenue so that construction can begin on the east lanes. There is a four way stop at the intersection.

Traffic on West Chestnut Avenue east of North Cleveland Street will be limited to east bound traffic only and traffic west of North Cleveland Street will be remain open to east and west bound traffic.

The construction is scheduled to take several more months and officials are reminding motorists to use caution when entering all work zones and to always obey detour and construction signs.

Future Work on Cleveland

The proposed Cleveland Street project from the BNSF railroad to Willow is going to be about 2,500 feet. It will connect 4-lane arterial streets to the north and south. Current construction will be completed before this new phase begins.

The widening project will entail a complete reconstruction of the roadway, including the railroad crossing. There will need to be an alignment to accommodate existing development, realignment of utilities and on-site storm water management.

In addition to the new roadway there will be new sidewalks and trails. A new trail will be located on the west side of the road and a sidewalk will be on the east side.

Driveways near the railroad crossing will need to be combined and moved slightly to the north. The widening of the road will take place to the east due to the west edge of the road already touching existing right of way and utility easements.

Environmental clearance for the project should be complete in 2019 while utility relocation will run into 2020. The actual timeline for funding and construction are currently unknown but expected to be within 2-3 years. Waiting on funding could be the biggest hurdle in moving forward.

The plan is to maintain through traffic throughout the construction although temporary closures could happen during drainage structure installations under Cleveland.

Phase 1 of construction will see traffic shifted west onto existing and temporary lanes while phase 2 will shift traffic east onto newly constructed lanes. Utility relocation will include water, fiber optic, telephone, electricity, etc.

The very last phase needed to fully complete the Cleveland widening was mentioned at the meeting. It is the area just north of Randolph at Elm. That part of the project could be 6 years down the road but is in the plan to finish 4-laning Cleveland.

    So glad to be able to use Cleveland all the way. Now if we could have NEW YELLOW LINES ON THE OVERPASS, l would really feel happy. During the fog l almost got hit head on because you can’t see lines.. People traveling through could not see lanes very well
