ENID, Okla. - Tuesday, June 28 marks another Change of Command at Vance, AFB, home to the 71st Flying Training Wing. The primary purpose of a change of command ceremony is to allow subordinates to witness the formality of command change from one officer to another.
-
The change of command is an Air Force tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility for the 71st Flying Training Wing from one commanding officer to another. The passing of the guidon from an outgoing commander to an incoming one ensures that the unit and its airmen are never without official leadership and a continuation of trust.
-
The significance of the exchanging of the guidon goes back to the legions of ancient Rome when passing signets in front of the troops symbolized the transfer of command from one person to another. The ceremony will take place at Vance, AFB.
-
Col. Darrell Judy will become the new wing commander at Vance Air Force Base during the Change of Command ceremony. Judy attended pilot training at Vance, graduating in July 1994. Judy then returned to Vance in June 2007 as a T-6A instructor pilot and chief of wing safety.
-
In July of 2009, he took over as commander of the 32nd Flying Training Squadron, which has since been redesignated as the 3rd FTS which he held until June of 2011. He will now become the 37th commander of the 71st Flying Training Squadron, succeeding Col. Clark Quinn, who has been wing commander at Vance since June 2014.
-
Col. Clark Quinn received command of the 71st Flying Training Wing, June 18, 2014. Quinn will relinquish command of the wing to Col. Darrell Judy Tuesday. Quinn is leaving Vance for a new post as executive officer to the deputy commander of the inter-service European Command, based in Stuttgart, Germany.
-
You are cordially invited to join Team Vance via Facebook Live, June 28, as Col. Clark Quinn relinquishes command of the 71st Flying Training Wing to Col. Darrell Judy.
