Burton Lynn Maxwell, Lt Col (ret), USAF

124x180-Maxwell, BurtonBurton Lynn Maxwell, Lt Col (ret), USAF, passed away Sunday, November 29, 2015. A loving husband, father, friend, teacher, veteran and servant, he will be missed by so many.

Burt began his earthly adventure in Ponca City, Oklahoma on December 27, 1941. He graduated from Ponca City HS in 1959. In 1963, after spending summers working on the Denver freight docks, he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a BA in Mathematics. He wasted little time before marrying the love of his life, Aline, and starting his teaching career in Perry, OK. The Air Force presented a promising career, and shortly after the birth of their first child, Burt was commissioned and the family moved to Columbus, MS. A second child was born to Burt and Aline three years later in Shreveport, LA. Over the next two decades Burt continued his adventure, receiving an MS from OU in Meteorological Engineering, spending one year in Viet Nam, changing careers from Weather Officer to Missile Officer, and residing in a number of states throughout the central and southern US, as well as Germany and the Netherlands.

In 1989, Burt retired from the military to Albuquerque. He returned to his first career choice when he joined Hope Christian School. He shared his appreciation of Math with new generations for the next 15 years. Aline joined him at Hope the following year. Many evenings during those years and after, he could be found tutoring students in his classroom or at his round kitchen table.

During his career and life, Burt touched many. In Albuquerque, one could seldom accompany him to a restaurant or shop without running into a former student or co-worker. Burt continued to exercise, travel, and enjoy his life with Aline throughout their lives and through his battle with cancer. In October he made his final road trip to visit grandchildren in NC and family in OK. He fought his illness hard and long. He spent his last weeks surrounded by friends and family.

Burt is survived by his wife Aline of 52 years; daughter Treva Maxwell-Anderson and her husband Karl of NC; son Darrin Maxwell and his wife Maria of Germany; grandchildren Rylee and Micaela; sisters Joanna (Frank) Longley and Lynda (James) Williams; and a number of beloved sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Burt will be honored at a memorial ceremony on Friday, December 4, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors from the United States Air Force.

Memorial contributions may be made to Foundation for the National Institutes of Health in Burton Maxwell's name with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
