Barbara Joan Coffin

April 2, 1932 - December 10, 2021

Barbara Joan Coffin was born April 2, 1932 in Bloom, Kansas to John G. and Doris A. Holmes Buckhannan. She went to school in Bloom and graduated in 1950. On June 4, 1950, Joan married her lifelong love, Wayne at her parent’s home. They made their home in Great Bend, Kansas until Wayne was transferred with Natural Gas Pipeline Company to Minneola, Kansas in December 1950. They began their family in Minneola with the birth of Wayne Lynn Coffin, Vicki Jo Coffin Lunday and Larry Eugene Coffin. Wayne was transferred in 1959 to Mooreland, Oklahoma and in 1963, Galen Lee Coffin was born. Joan was employed by Golden Age Nursing Home in Mooreland for many years. In 1987, Wayne and Joan retired and moved to Enid, Oklahoma, where they lived until Wayne’s death in 2006. She stayed in Enid, until July 2012, when she moved to live with her son, Larry and wife, Benita in Mooreland.

In June 2021, much to the dismay of everyone, Joan took her one and only commercial flight to New York for her oldest great grandson’s high school graduation. It is still a mystery how Larry and Benita pulled off getting her to the airport, checking bags, going through security and having her at a restaurant eating, when asked if she knew where she was going? She said “No”. she thought that Larry was just dropping Benita off. She was told she was going to Buffalo, New York. She replied, “Your Kidding!” She surprised herself and actually enjoyed the flight. She said she would do it again. On this trip, she was able to visit Niagara Falls. She was so close, she could feel the spray on her face. Turns out this was her last big hurrah. Joan passed on December 10, 2021. Fortunately right after all the kids and grandkids and great grands came home for Thanksgiving.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wayne F.; daughter, Vicki Jo Coffin Lunday; brothers, John Leland, James Richard and Jack Ray Buckhannan.
