Saturday, May 31st, 1924 - Wednesday, November 18th, 2020

Funeral services for Alvin Wichert, age 96, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 21, 2020 at the Bible Baptist Church with Reverend Terry Chick officiating. Burial with military honors provided by the United States Army will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.

Alvin was born May 31, 1924 in Cedar Springs, Oklahoma to John and Elizabeth (Ollenberger) Wichert and passed away Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Golden Oaks Retirement Home in Enid.

Alvin joined the Army in 1942 at the age of 17. He served in Italy during World War II until 1946.

In January of 1948 he married the love of his life, Maxine Teske, of which he took great care and dedication of her for over 72 years. To the very end his biggest concern was “Max”. You would often hear him offer her some of his food off of his tray.

Alvin worked at Champlin Refinery from 1948 until their closure in 1984. He worked as a canner, canning oil, and then as a fireman, a job he enjoyed very much. He always praised the Lord for the wonderful job he was provided, even though he had a lack of education due to the hard times he had growing up.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He worked for many years repairing stringed instruments, through Chenoweth & Green and Jensens music, for Enid Public Schools and surrounding areas. He made 5 violins from scratch and taught himself to play by ear. He loved to give the Lord credit for his talent and love to play at his church home many times.

He was a wonderful father and grandfather. He enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his family and loved them all deeply. His main concern was that they all have a personal relationship with their Savior and that he would see them all again in Heaven.

Alvin served the United States Army but served in the Lords Army as a lifelong solder.

He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers & sisters. He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Maxine Wichert, of Enid; son Jerry Wichert and wife Jerilyn, of Hamburg, Michigan; daughter Janice Peterson and husband Alan, of Enid; five grandchildren, Kim, Kristy, Jeremy, Tanner and Emily; nine great-grandchildren; as well as nieces, nephews, cousins and other family and friends.
