Are You Seeing Artistic Rocks Around Enid?

ENID, OK - June 12, 2017 - Have you ever suddenly found a really cool, painted rock somewhere and wondered where it came from? A few groups in Enid and Oklahoma are now spreading joy by painting special messages on rocks and leaving them to be found in locations throughout Enid and the 580 area code.

As I was leaving the post office today a very enterprising young man got out of a vehicle and gave me a shiny rock with the Stars & Stripes painted on it. The family left without explanation but I quickly discovered that on the back of the rock was this message, "580 Rocks! Facebook LE."

I know enough about social media to know that there was most likely a Facebook page associated with the rock. After a quick search on my phone I discovered the 580 Rocks Facebook Group. It appears that the group went from secret to a closed group back in January 2017.

There is also a more local Facebook group at Enid Rocks. Melissa Frisbee has been painting and hiding colorful rocks in the Enid area. Much like the Enid Lego Builder, Melissa posts on the Facebook group page when she hides more rocks.

There is a pinned post that explains what the rocks and the groups are all about. Lauretta Lee appears to be the group administrator for the 580 group. Below is info from that pinned post:

Check out the groups at the links above and see many of the very artistic rocks that have been hidden throughout Oklahoma. You can look for rocks or start your own collection to hide! I'm debating whether I should keep mine or hide it for someone else to find. If I do hide it I'll include something special with it. Thanks LE for the great rock, it rocked!

Thank you so much for sharing our group 580Rocks! I started this group in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. There has been such an overwhelming response and such wonderful people sharing their talents it has inspired others to pick up a brush and paint little works of art and others to get out get outside in their community in search of these little gems. We have no agenda other than to spread a little joy. So this is a win win!!
