Enid has lost a 16 year veteran of the police department. Sgt. Rick Tanner passed away yesterday in his home. Rick had been a police officer, worked in Narcotics and was working the night shift.

Just last week Mark Keefer, from Route 60 Sentinel, had taken a ride with him on his nightly run. Mark wrote about his experience riding with Sgt. Tanner in his online story here.

The Chief Brian O'Rourke of the Enid Police Department has released a statement:

SGT Tanner is a great loss to the Enid Police Department and myself personally. He truly cared about his city. Rick was an officer who cared about his career. He wanted to be a police officer to make a difference and he did. All through patrol and narcotics and being promoted to SGT he was policing his community. He always did his best. He was overcome today. The EPD and I lost a friend and it hurts. Job well done Rick. Godspeed.
Brian
