Enid Lego Builder Back On The Hunt

ELB Back On The Hunt

After taking a short hiatus from creating and hiding Lego art, Carl Field has come out of a self imposed retirement to get back on the hunt. Fielder took a little time off his Enid Lego Builder alter ego to spend some quality time with his family.
-
Now that things have relaxed around his home, Fielder is back in the garage creating new Lego art. He's already been out hiding many of the new pieces and is experimenting with new materials.
-
Channel 9 in OKC heard about Fielder's story and made a trip to Enid to cover it for their segment called Red Dirt Diaries. The film crew came to Enid during the week and the story ran on Friday, September 18.

Revealing Enid Lego Builder

-
April 5, 2015 - He says it's time! The man behind the Enid Lego Builder thought it was time for you to know who he was so that he can participate more openly in art projects and help promote Enid in a more public way.
-
He has kept his identity a secret from most of the general public for three years only revealing himself when needed. Although we'll miss the mystery of who is behind ELB, we will certainly enjoy being able to say hello when we meet him on the street. I say kudos to ELB and what he has done for Enid.
-
Enid Buzz has had dealings with ELB and we understand his new family life and all that he has been through. He revealed himself to all through a series of clues that led fans to him Friday night at First Friday. He turned up at the Felt Bird and had a great crowd ready to finally meet him. Here is your Enid Lego Builder... Carl Fielder!

ELB Story from 2013

-
April, 2013 - This is a story about one of Enid's most well known citizens that nobody knows. What's that you say? How can a well known resident of Enid not be known to practically anyone? He or she can, if they're the Enid Lego Builder!! For the purposes of this article we're going to refer him as a male.
-
Enid Lego Builder or ELB as he's known is Enid's anonymous Mad Hatter. He's the invisible graffiti artist that swoops into an event and leaves his mark in Lego character magnets, t-shirts and stickers, only to disappear into the shadows. He's become a bit of a legend since his non-permanent street art began showing up around Enid in January 2011.
-
He's so popular these days that he has his own Facebook account with over 1600 friends. Enid residents follow his posts just waiting for the next hunt. A hunt is the Builders name for an occasion when he's going to place Lego magnets and other goodies in locations around town and then release clues via photographs on social media where the hidden treasures can be found.
-
ELB art hunters have to be quick these days, as the growing number of followers makes it more difficult to be the first on site to capture the bounty. Fortunately most ELB fans follow the rule of one piece of art per hunt. This makes it possible for more hunters to acquire their trophies. Although there is a one piece rule for each hunt many fans have started their own ELB art collections by participating in multiple hunts.
-
One of the rewards of finding ELB art is photographing yourself with the found art and getting to see it posted on the ELB Facebook page for others to see. Everything runs smoothly due to the popularity of mobile devices and social media. Hunters can follow updates while moving from location to location and ELB can submit updates without the fear of discovery. You'll need to watch for clues on his Facebook Page to know where to go.
-
Why Lego men? Simply put, because a Lego is an iconic image that everyone knows or has stepped on at one time in their life. It's also an image that hopefully will not offended anyone young or old. The Lego character is a builder, and that is what ELB sees in our city. Building Enid, making it better and growing it stronger from the ground up. He actually signs his art, "The Builder" and would rather be known for building up Enid than for his Lego themes.
-
Where's ELB? One of the newer aspects of ELB is where his art will pop up next. Die hard fans are now toting their ELBware on vacation and snapping photos of ELB around the world. These photos are being posted all over Facebook and have already come from multiple countries and across the United States.
-
All of this adventure and intrigue has led to the culmination of an official Enid Lego Builder Day!! ELB Day has been set for Saturday, April 27th throughout Enid. There will not be one specific location and the hunts will last all day long. Word on the street says there will be 90 magnets, 11 head magnets, 5 keychains, 4 canvas paintings, 1 wooden cradle board painting and 5 really cool Privation Printing t-shirts. See samples here: ELB Facebook page.
-
To be a part of Enid Lego Builder Day simply turn on your mobile device and wait for ELB to release his clues. There won't be a central location or pre-released times. You'll need to be on hunt status all day. One of the more exciting aspects of ELB Day will be the night hunt! So don't wear yourself out too early. On top of the great finds to be discovered there should be a few other surprises throughout the day. Here is the official information from ELB himself:
-

Here's the rough outline of Saturdays craziness... It's the same as always but bigger. I am going to start roughly around 530am with the first hunt. I will post pics of locations via picture or text. First one to find the piece gets to keep it. This will go on all day and into the night. The night hunts will be different and details will come that evening on locations. *NOTE* Just please don't be greedy and selfish. Like if you get a shirt or art piece don't get another. Say you want a magnet and art that's cool but PLEASE only take 1 "big" item PER FAMILY. I want this to be fun.

-
If you cannot participate on ELB Day you still have a chance to get a piece of Builder memorabilia! The Lego Builder keychains and magnets (seen below) are now on sale at the Felt Bird, downtown on Independence. They are "blind bagged" magnets and keychains. Every one is different and comes with a sticker. While it lasts, there is 1 that has boots on, it's a "chase" figure and whoever finds it will get a prize. Each Lego character costs $5. They are a collaboration of Art Lab and the Felt Bird.
-
Finally, you may be asking if Enid Buzz knows the secret identity of ELB. What we can say is that we have our suspicions and suspects. Are we in any hurry to uncover the elusive artist? In no way would we ever want to spoil the lore of ELB. The name, the art, the hunts and the unknown, all combine to make him a fantastic community asset.
-
Enid is in a building phase and ELB is a great compliment to what is going on. With new venues, the continued resurgence of downtown and the ability to quickly communicate over social media there seems to be an alignment of stars. This is a great time to be in Enid and there are so many things to participate in. Don't be a naysayer, if you want to find something to do in Enid you'll find it, I personally guarantee that. Enid Buzz salutes the Enid Lego Builder and can't wait to start the hunt!!
