March 28, 1943 — November 30, 2025
Carolyn “Susie” Edwards’ family will celebrate her 82 beautiful years of life at 12:00 P.M. Saturday, December 6, 2025 in the Westminster Church of Enid. She passed very peacefully into eternal life after a long fight with Alzheimer’s.
Susie was born to Leota and Gail Clark in Enid, OK, on March 28, 1943. The family moved several times, due to her father being an instructor pilot during the war. At age 2, Susie’s family settled in Tulsa, OK, where her father started a Beechcraft airplane dealership. She loved growing up in Tulsa and graduated from Edison High School. After attending four colleges, Susie finally found what she was looking for at the University of Oklahoma…the love of her life, Phil Edwards.
Yet, this beautiful love-match almost didn’t happen. When Phil called the first time to ask her on a date, Susie immediately blurted, ”I don’t date people I don’t know!” and promptly hung up on him. Luckily, after some time, Phil called again. While dating, Phil received draft orders to begin military boot camp in one month. The two were married eight days later! They lived for a year in Tulsa, then made their home in Enid, OK. The deep love between the two never faded. Even when speaking of her “Knight in Shining Armor” in her 70’s and 80’s, she would say, “Do you know how in-love I still am with that man!” After a few years teaching high school French, Susie’s full-time job became making a warm and loving home for her husband and two children. She was an absolute blast of a mother; she put her whole heart into her family and made a celebration out of each special moment.
Susie was strong, bold and gave spot-on advice. She sang loudly, loved deeply, laughed hardily, and described herself as a “wet toe in a hot socket.” Susie was a true Renaissance woman. She received her pilots license at eighteen, spoke French and German, rode horseback, loved playing Bridge, was an incredible Gin Rummy player, and was a beautiful artist and writer. Susie expressed her love through her kitchen. She was an outstanding cook, with her big salads being unparalleled. With her masterful green thumb, she turned her backyard into a tropical paradise. Susie adored her life in Enid and passionately loved the Sooners! But most of all, Susie was a lover of Jesus. She devoted her life to reading and learning the Word. Every single page of her three Bibles are underlined, circled, highlighted, and filled with notes. She and Phil were always active in many roles at church. She was also an active member in PEO, chapters AQ and DO.
Survivors include her husband, Phil Edwards; daughter, Julia (Darrin) Camp; son, Clark (Jessica) Edwards; her sister, Anne (Dan) Sadberry; and grandchildren, Kate Camp, Claire Camp, Patrick Camp and Madelyne Edwards.
Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Leota and Gail Clark; her brother, Tom Clark, all of Tulsa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Church of Enid, or Hospice Circle of Love with Brown-Cummings Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
