Ronald-Shire-1471519310Funeral service for Ronald Shire, age 79, of Enid will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery with arrangements by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. Visitation with family and friends will be Friday evening 5:30-6:30PM at the funeral home.

Ron was born to Ivan and Aileen (Palmer) Shire on March 2, 1937, in Enid, and passed away on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Ron grew up and attended school in Jefferson, graduating high school in 1955. Ron graduated Central State College with a Bachelor degree in Education in 1960. Ron joined the U.S. Army in 1960 and was in the 82nd Airborne. He was Honorably Discharged July 1963. Ron then continued college to get his Master’s Degree in Teaching in 1968, earning teaching certificates in History, Government, Psychology and Physical Education. Ron coached basketball for a total of 32 years at Newcastle, Ardmore, Crooked Oak, Wellston, Mannford and Medford public schools. Ron was awarded District Teacher of the Year, Conference Coach of the Year and Daily Oklahoman Little City Coach of the Year. Upon retirement from teaching, Ron became a real estate and investment agent.

Ron is survived by his brothers: Fred Shire of Jefferson, Marvin Shire of Hennessey, Gail Shire of Wichita, Kansas; his sisters: Shirley Snipes of Oklahoma City, Beverly Taylor of San Diego, California, Karen Frederick of Ft. Worth, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.

Ron is preceded in death by his parents, brother Joe (Sonny), and a brother Loren

Memorials may be made to youth sports organization, or to the donor’s choice with Anderson-Burris Funeral Home serving as custodian of the funds.
