A Mass of Christian Burial for Margaret Anne Vater, 94, will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 25, 2025, at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church with Rev. Robert Miller officiating. Recitation of the Rosary will be at 6:00 PM Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Anderson-Burris Chapel. Arrangements made by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory.
Margaret, who preferred to be called Maggie, was born on October 8, 1930, and passed away on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, in Oklahoma City. She was the daughter of John J. Vater and Edith Marie Vater. Maggie graduated from Enid High School in 1948 and was a 1952 graduate of Oklahoma A. & M. (Oklahoma State University.)
Maggie worked at Vance Air Force Base and then relocated to Washington D.C. She worked for U.S. Senators Robert S. Kerr and J. Howard Edmondson. Later, she worked for the Air Force at the Pentagon and for the State Department in Germany and Austria. She was very interested in politics and loved to travel to countries in Europe. After retiring, she volunteered at cancer clinics in Fort Smith, Arkansas and Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City.
Maggie was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John J. Vater Jr. and Robert W. Vater; and two sisters, Marie Vater Flynn and Dorothy Vater Harbour. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. Maggie was a lifelong devout Catholic and always loved being with family and friends. She had a great sense of humor and lived life to the fullest. She was loved by all that knew her and will be greatly missed.
