Lela Marie Goodnight

3741720The funeral service for Lela Marie Goodnight will be 2:00 P.M. Friday, June 10, 2016 at Trinity Baptist Church with Pastor John Doffer and Pastor Jim Nance officiating. Burial will follow in Covington Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home.

Lela was born November 19, 1919 to Elmer and Minnie (Lambert) Sowles in Gracemont, OK and went to be with her Savior June 6, 2016. She was raised in Roxanna, OK and graduated from Marshall High School in 1937. Lela married Frank Goodnight on March 11, 1939 and the couple made homes in Lucien, Covington and San Francisco until they moved to Enid in 1953. She worked at Bass Baptist Hospital as a CNA, Hospital Ward Secretary and Medical Assistant for 30 years before her retirement.

Lela was a longtime member of Trinity Baptist Church where she served as Sunday school and Bible school teacher. She was a member of Good Sam’s Club, Women’s Democratic Club, Friscoet’s and 325th Army Unit Survivors. Lela relished working in her yard, especially her flower garden. She enjoyed visiting with friends and was always there with a shoulder, for her brother and sisters to lean on. Lela loved her family deeply, always had a smile and never met a stranger.

Lela is survived by daughter, Glenda Hemken of Ponca City; grandsons, Wayne Hemken of Ponca City, and Justin Hill of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Cindy Nelson of CA; sister, Marthella Gay Tyler of Okmulgee; numerous great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Judy K. Hill; son-in-law, Henry Hemken; brothers, George Sowles, Glen Sowles and Ronald Dean Sowles; sisters, Myrtle Tarrant, Nina Davis, Ilene Clement, Mabel Avery and Virginia Tunis.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Trinity Baptist Church.
