January 5, 1938 - July 2, 2024
Karen Jean (Davis) Coulter was born to Bennie Lyle and Marjorie Marie Davis on January 5th, 1938 in Helena, Oklahoma. She was affectionately known as Butch to all those who knew her well. The Lord called her home on July 2nd, 2024. She went to school in Helena and was an excellent student. She enjoyed all the girl’s sports, but her favorite was basketball, which is probably why she became such an avid Thunder fan when the team moved to OKC. She rarely missed a game and would cheer them on regardless of the score. She also, played clarinet in the Helena High School band. Karen graduated from Helena High School in 1956. It was while attending school there, she met the love of her life, Leon Coulter. They were joined in marriage on April 15th, 1955 and went on to have 6 children. They were married for over 65 years and were only separated by Leon’s death in 2021.
She held down several different jobs over the years, but considered being a homemaker to be her primary occupation. She was an accomplished seamstress and hand made many of her children’s clothes to help make ends meet. She was an excellent cook, which came in handy since she eventually had 8 mouths to feed. Karen loved country music and always enjoyed going dancing with Leon on their rare nights out. She was a member of the Helena Church of Christ and I believe that now they are dancing to the Lord’s music in Heaven.
She is survived by her 2 brothers, Bill and Joanne Davis of Alamogordo, New Mexico; Jim and Sandy Davis of Waco, Texas; her 6 children, Cole and Jamie Coulter of Goltry; Loy Coulter of Enid; Becky and Greg Bules of Lahoma; Tania and Doug Vaughn of Kingston; Levi Coulter and Len Morris of Newalla; and Heather and Bart Lewis of Piedmont. She had 10 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother, and a sister. She will be dearly missed by her family and many friends. Services to clebrate Karen’s life are pending. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.
