Joseph Melvin Weast

3935514The mass of Christian burial for Joseph Melvin “Pops” Weast, 90 year-old Enid resident will be at 10:00AM Tuesday, October 11, 2016 in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Rev. Aaron Foshee will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

He was born January 4, 1926 in Enid to Joseph ”Ben” and Martha (Hess) Weast and died Saturday, October 8, 2016 in Bass Baptist Health Center. He attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated in 1944. He served in the Army during WWII from 1944 to 1947 with the 261st Infantry Company A Rifleman Division 45.

On September 2, 1949 he married the love of his life, Gladys Arlene Hayes and the couple made their home in Enid. Melvin retired from Gold Spot Dairy after 33 years and then worked another 17 years for Jumbo Foods.

He is survived by his daughter, Susan Oldham and husband William of Enid, two sons; Steve Weast and wife Pam of Vernal, Utah, and Michael Weast and wife Melinda of Artesia, New Mexico. Grandchildren, Joe Weast and Mercedes Weast. Also one sister, Ruth Milacek

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 64 years, Gladys, his granddaughter Mqrquise Weast, and his sisters Ruby Weast, Marie Weast, Louise Davis and Rita Weast.

Memorials may be made to either Our Daily Bread or the Marquise Weast Memorial Scholorship Fund Greater Artesia Foundation.
