James Lee Hankins

November 28, 1948 - June 20, 2024

Celebration of Life Service for James Lee Hankins, 75, will be Saturday, June 29, 2024 at 10:00 am in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. Cremation arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Funeral Home and Crematory.

James was born November 28, 1948 in Enid, Oklahoma to Thomas A. and Dorothy Mae (Batchelder) Hankins and died June 20, 2024 in Tulsa with his family by his side.

He grew up in Enid and graduated from Enid High School. James enlisted in the Army in 1966, serving in Vietnam. He was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart before being honorably discharged in 1969. Following his discharge, he returned to Enid and was a policeman with City of Enid. James graduated from Northwestern Oklahoma State University with a bachelor’s degree. He worked as a special agent for the Frisco Railroad. James worked at Autry Tech from 1983 until his retirement in 2010. He enjoyed time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. James loved to travel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Linda Sue and Mary Ann; brother, Butch.

James is survived by his children, James Hankins (Kim) and Rani and husband, Kirk Smith; grandchildren, Koby (Hope) Smith, Jefferson (Brooklyn) Smith, Ross (Grey Escude) Smith, James Hankins and Leslie Hankins; three great grandchildren, Everett, Arlo and Hattie; brothers, Thomas, Bobby (Tammy) Hankins; sisters, Sharon (Duane) Callaway-McNeil, Betty (Freddie) Emerson, Margaret (Jack) Pilgrim, and Beverly (Gary) Hart; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
