James C. “Jim” Lewis

James-Jim-Lewis-1448014551Celebration of Life service for James C. “Jim” Lewis will be at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 in Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Andrew Long officiating. A private family burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Jim was born February 12, 1927 in Des Moines, Iowa to James and Martha (Lucht) Lewis and passed away on November 19, 2015 at the age of 88. Jim was raised in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating Lincoln High School in 1945. He proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II. He married the love of his life, Erma “Jean” Haynes on December 15, 1946 in Des Moines. Next month would have been their 69th anniversary. While living in Des Moines, Jim worked for Corn States Hybrid, Luthe Hardware Company as buyer and manager, and Farmland Insurance Company as Fire Service Engineer. Jim, Jean and their four daughters, moved to Enid, Oklahoma in 1961 and he continued working for Farmland Insurance Company, retiring as Regional Manager in 1989, after 30 years. He retired from the Oklahoma State Insurance Fund in 1993.

Jim was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Enid, served as deacon, elder, and also drove the bus for many youth trips. Jim was a past President of Enid Civitan Club and past President of the St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Volunteers. Jim dearly loved his family and was actively involved in his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s lives. He attended and supported everything from plays, band and choral concerts, football games, camp-outs, accordion lessons, dance recitals, and even sheep shows. Some of his most treasured memories shared with his girls were Dad/Daughter Campfire box suppers, Girl Scouts, events at Phillips University, and OSU Dad’s Days.

He had a passion for cars, his dogs, and enjoyed working in his yard and helping his wife, Jean, with her flower gardens.

Jim was a devoted and dearly loved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean; their four daughters, Janet (Larry) Maahs of Anamosa, IA, Barbara (Ron) Perry of Oklahoma City, Terrie Clover of Enid, and Sherri (Randy) Warren of Edmond. Grandchildren, Jennifer (Brent) Kisling, Jeff (Courtney) Berg, Andrea (Nathan) Parker, Lisa Perry, Ted Perry, Kelsie (John) Curtis, Lindsie (Brandon) Padden, Jim (Devon) Maahs, Joanne (Michael) DeLessio, Julie Maahs and twelve great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law, Philip Clover, his parents, and sister, Rose Jean Halverson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Loaves & Fishes, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, or The Children’s Hospital Volunteers at OU Medical Center with Anderson-Burris as custodian of the funds.
