Ila Laverne Turney

Ila Laverne Turney, 90, of Enid, was born on July 3, 1926 in Ottawa, Kansas, the eldest of six children born to Charles and Loretta McDaniel, and passed away peacefully on December 19, 2016 in Enid.

She was raised and educated in Ottawa and Wichita, Kansas. Ila married Leo Foster and resided in Enid. Later, she married Rex Gibson in Enid. In 1976, Ila married Richard Turney in Enid, who survives her.

Ila grew up taking care of her brothers and sisters until the age of 15, where she went to work as a waitress. She worked from then on until her seventies. Ila loved people, and one of her greatest pleasures in life was cooking for them. Seeing someone enjoy her cooking brought great joy to her.

Ila ran the restaurant at the Midwestern Inn for five years, then purchased a restaurant in Canton, Oklahoma. She ran the Peppermill in Enid, Dan and Bakes Restaurant, later working for the Holiday Inn. Ila retired from Advance Foods Restaurant.

Ila was the mother of four children, Carol Jaycox and husband Lee, Diana Arterbury and husband Wayman (Enid), Robert Gibson and wife Gwen (Broken Arrow), and Glenna Johnson and husband Gary (Enid); eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Ila passed away Monday, Dec. 19, 2016, and is preceded in death by her parents; former husbands Leo and Rex, a brother Jack McDaniel and sister Donna Chance; and a great-granddaughter, Ila Claire West.
