Graveside services for Freida J. Guthrie, age 86 years, of Stillwater, formerly of Enid, are 11:00 am, Monday, November 30, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Vernon Lee will officiate. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home.
Freida was born March 3, 1929 in Davidson, Oklahoma to Will Dees and Zim (Gregory) Dees. She attended Davidson High School and participated in sports, playing basketball on the girl’s team. After graduation, her family moved to Enid, where she met and married her husband, Howard M. Guthrie. They had one daughter, Vicki Sue. Freida worked in retail sales, working at Woolsworth for a while. She spent most of her time raising money for children with special needs, and specifically for Enid State School, which became NORCE.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Will and Zim, her husband, Howard Guthrie, a brother, Morris Dees, and a sister, Vera Glover.
She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Sue Guthrie, of Stillwater, OK; sister-in-law Mary Dees, of Cedar Hill, Texas; two nieces, Martha Swinnea, of Enid; Lana Canon and husband Adron, of Midlothian, Texas; and a nephew John Dees and wife Susan, of Stillwater.
