Enid Buzz wants everyone to be safe on Halloween night while trick-or-treating. Here are a few of the usual safety reminders for those going out. Have fun and be safe!

1. Drive slow!

If you are driving around town or following your kids, please drive slow and stay off the mobile device. There will be kids darting around everywhere!

2. Carry a light or flashlight

Have each child carry or wear something lit, such as a flashlight, glow bracelet or necklace, or flashing attire for visibility. Light-up shoes are also practical, and ever-so-noticeable on a dark Halloween night.

3. Have a meeting place

In case someone gets lost or separated, have a meeting time and spot so your not searching for kids all night. Have your kids carry a phone or walkie talkie.

4. Wear comfortable easy to walk in shoes

Have kids wear well-fitting shoes; preferably sneakers. Avoid princess high-heel, too-large boots, or other types of shoes often shown with costumes.

5. Dress warm

By the time Halloween arrives the temperatures could easily drop 10-20 degrees. Carry a jacket or coat in case the kids get cold. Gloves are great as well. Also carry tissues if the noses start running.

6. Wear safe and removable costumes

Avoid costumes that drag on the ground. While cute initially, costumes that drag can trip up little feet, get caught on bushes, and create a tussle that sometimes results in the child wanting to remove the costume.  Also pick costumes that are bathroom-friendly as well. Be aware that you may need a bathroom break during the evening.

7. Don't cover the eyes

Be sure a child's mask allows full visibility and breathing. Parents should try on masks for size and not hesitate to cut out larger openings for a trick or treater's comfort. If possible, find a mask that "breathes" and is easy to put on and off. The types of mask that easily can slide up on the head and then pulled down are best.

8. Avoid carrying dangerous objects

Only carry flexible props, such as knives, swords, ninja items, etc., that can't cause injury if a kid accidentally falls. Also remember that your child may get tired of carrying the props.

9. Look for houses with lights on

Lit homes are safer and you know the person is welcoming you to trick-or-treat. Residents who do not wish to be bothered by trick-or-treaters often leave off their lights as a sign.

10. Remind your kids

Remind your kids not to go into houses or get in cars with strangers. Explain to them not to take more than one piece of candy if a bowl is left out and be sure to tell them to say THANK YOU!

11. Don't stay out too late

Keep track of time and don't trick or treat after 9 p.m. (general recommendation). That allows ample time for children to trick or treat, and by then, the excitement of the evening and the candy/treats means little ghouls will be tired, anyhow.

12. Carry some water

The kids will eventually get thirsty, especially if they eat some candy.

13. Check the kids candy before they eat a piece

It doesn't hurt to inspect candy and throw out opened wrappers and homemade goodies from people you do not know. Also look for candy your child might be allergic to or get sick on.

14. Cross at crosswalks

Walk on the sidewalk and cross at crosswalks rather than running through the street.

15. Remember

Always remember the houses that give out king-size candy bars and visit them next year!!

Jerald L. Coleman, age 66, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of his family.

Jerry was born and raised in Enid, Oklahoma, where he attended Chisholm High School. He was a man who could rarely sit still and spent his life working with his hands, solving problems, and pursuing the things he loved. In 1983, Jerry opened his own machine shop, beginning a career as a machinist and mechanic that reflected his natural ability to build, repair, and make just about anything work. More than 15 years ago, he opened his own scuba shop and became a scuba instructor, combining his love of diving with his passion for teaching and sharing experiences with others.

Jerry had many passions throughout his life. He loved building race cars, racing, working on vehicles, scuba diving, and spending time with the people he loved. With his racing background, anyone who knew Jerry knew one thing for certain: he did not know how to drive slow.

On June 10, 1983, Jerry married the love of his life, Deborah (Seltenreich) Coleman, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Enid. Together, they built a life centered around family, adventure, and countless memories. Jerry and Debbie enjoyed traveling together, including trips to many of the islands throughout the Atlantic Ocean. Jerry would spend his time scuba diving while Debbie enjoyed relaxing in the sun. But some of their most meaningful time together was spent simply following their children and grandchildren to their many sporting events and activities.

As a husband, Jerry was, in true Jerry fashion, stubborn, determined, and always convinced he knew the best way to do things. But beneath that stubbornness was a husband who loved his family deeply and devoted his life to them.

As a father, Jerry expected the best. He was tough, sometimes very tough, to impress, but his expectations came from wanting nothing less than the best for his children. He taught his kids how to work on vehicles, coached their sports, and was always the person they called when something needed to be fixed. He could fix nearly anything—although helping Dad at the machine shop came with its own challenges. Somehow, the light was never being held in quite the right place, the tool was never the right tool, and there was always a better way to do whatever you were doing.

And if you needed help with a vehicle, you called Dad. If you wanted to make sure you stayed out of trouble, however, you called Mom. Becoming a grandfather brought out a side of Jerry that his children hadn't always seen. His grandchildren changed him in the best possible way. He became their biggest cheerleader and was determined to make sure they had everything they wanted. They created a soft spot in his heart that was impossible to miss. The tough, stubborn mechanic and perfectionist became the funny, outgoing Grandpa who absolutely adored his grandchildren.

Jerry was a friend to many and considered by those who knew him to be one of the most selfless people they had ever met. He was the kind of person who would help a friend without hesitation. He was also known for his colorful language, quick humor, and ability to turn just about any situation into a story worth telling.

Above all else, Jerry loved his family. His greatest legacy will not be the machines he built, the cars he raced, the vehicles he repaired, or even the miles he traveled beneath the water. It will be the people he taught, coached, challenged, encouraged, and loved.

He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known him. His memory will live on in the lessons he taught, the stories that will continue to be told, the things he built and repaired, and most of all, in the family he loved.

Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Louise Coleman. Jerry is survived by his wife Debbie, his children Jeremy Coleman & wife Mia and grandchildren Makenna, Jameson, and Harper, Justin Coleman & Wife Alix and granddaughter Sadie, and Janae Bode & husband Blade and grandchildren Paisley and Raylin; his father Jim Coleman; brothers Jim Coleman & wife Liz, Jeff Coleman & wife Kim, and John Coleman; and several other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

A celebration of life service for Jerry Coleman will be 10:00AM Monday November 2, 2026 at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Terry Chick officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home & Crematory.

Barbara Elaine Patterson, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Ames on October 26, 2026. Services are Thursday, October 29, 11am, Ames Baptist Church. Visitation and viewing starts at 10am, graveside services following. A luncheon will be held at Ames Community Center.

A lifelong resident of Ames, OK, Barbara was born May 7, 1941 to Budd and Pearl Turner Sturgeon. She lived her entire life on a farm near Ames. She married Coy Patterson in 1960, and to this union two children were born, Rhesa (Evan) Patterson Funk and Bud Neal (Debbie) Patterson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marcia (Larry) Swart.

Barbara’s greatest joys came from serving her church, Ames Baptist. She attended Ames Baptist from age 1 month to age 85. She faithfully served the Lord in every capacity in the church. She was a member or leader of all committees numerous times, organized church events for over six decades, and cooked 1000’s of meals for funerals, church dinners and the sick. She taught Sunday School for 59 consecutive years. She led the singing and was youth leader for many years. She was a leader in Community Vacation Bible School for over 30 years, and was also a Falls Creek Youth Camp Sponsor and Cook for more than 20 years.

In addition to her activities and service to the church, Barbara was dedicated to the Ames community where she helped with blood drives, fund raisers, Ames Day, school events, and all things 4-H and FFA. She and Coy became Amway Distributors in 1987, reaching the level of Pearl Direct. She also worked for the ASCS, Agriculture Soil Conservation Service, in Fairview, 1960-62, before her children were born.

She and Coy enjoyed extensive travel during their years together, traveling coast to coast over the years of their married life, with many trips to the Smokey Mountains.

Barbara was passionate about the education and extra-curricular activities of her children. During their youth she attended, organized, sponsored and/or helped with all 4-H, FHA and FFA events. She contributed much time and effort to livestock shows, music concerts, science fairs, speech contests and all school activities. She continued her service to the children of Ames in these rolls long after her own children were raised.

Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, Coy, her children Rhesa and Bud Neal, two grandchildren Coy Dale (Skylar) Funk and Chloe Patterson, three step-grandchildren Shane (Stephanie) Funk, Clay (Katie) Funk, and Chris (Charity) Funk, and their children, and newest great-grandchild, Remington Pearl.

The family would like to express a special heartfelt thank you to Barbara’s long-term caregivers Gladys Morris, Abby Turner-Crews, Emily Young and recently, Tammy Longest. Additional thanks to the ladies at HomeWell Care Services of Enid: Kala Baker and Rita Chapman. And sincere appreciation to Enid Circle of Love Hospice: Brandy and Kayla. Each of these women have been a tremendous help and comfort to our family in the last years and weeks of Barbara’s life.

Each rezoning request passed 6–1, with Commissioner Frank Baker casting the lone opposing vote. Commissioners Patterson, Norwood, Roberts, Stallings and Dennis joined Mayor Mason in voting for the changes.

The votes move the proposed development another step forward, but do not give final approval to build or operate the data centers or associated power-generation facilities. Additional studies, intensive-use review and other approvals would still be required.

Commissioners also voted 6–1 to amend the Envision Enid comprehensive plan to recognize data center, energy and high-technology industrial development. Baker opposed that measure as well.

The three rezoning approvals change agricultural land to industrial zoning. Two involve the proposed West Campus, including heavy-industrial zoning near South 16th Street and East Rupe and light-industrial zoning for an 80-acre portion of property at 1702 South 30th Street. The third changes the proposed North Campus at 6611 North 42nd Street to heavy-industrial zoning.

Although emergency clauses were included with the comprehensive-plan amendment and rezoning ordinances, none received a motion for approval. The mayor asked for a motion on each emergency clause and moved on when none was offered.

Public comments reflected strong feelings on both sides of the proposal. Opponents questioned the locations, the pace of the process and whether enough information was available to make the zoning changes. Residents raised concerns about water use, wastewater, air pollution, noise, lighting, construction traffic and property values.

Several speakers said they were not against growth or data centers, but did not want industrial development next to their homes, farms or schools. Others asked commissioners to delay the decisions, consider a moratorium or allow residents to vote.

Supporters pointed to potential benefits for local businesses, schools and the community’s tax base. Some nearby residents supported moving forward, while asking for clear communication and enforceable protections for affected families.

Project representative Chad Dillingham told commissioners the zoning changes would allow the proposal to move into the next phase, where detailed studies could help determine whether the development could be done responsibly.

Dillingham discussed potential jobs, construction activity, school funding and ongoing revenue. Those benefits remain part of the proposal and were not guaranteed by Tuesday’s votes.

He said the proposed water supply would come from raw Kaw Lake water rather than groundwater, with treatment facilities funded by the developer. He also discussed a possible surcharge for watershed restoration and continued meetings with nearby residents.

Questions about Vance Air Force Base were another major part of the discussion. Dillingham and former mayor Mike Cooper described possible benefits from backup power and communications infrastructure. Dillingham said he was not aware of a current base-realignment threat.

Commissioners also asked what would happen to the industrial zoning if the project did not move forward. City legal staff explained that the property could not automatically revert to agricultural zoning. Staff described a provision for bringing the matter back for review after five years if substantial completion had not occurred, but another zoning process would be necessary.

Dillingham estimated approximately 10 more months of work could be needed before the proposal reached intensive-use consideration, potentially around August 2027. That timeline remains a projection.

For now, the comprehensive-plan amendment and rezoning requests have been approved. Specific development plans, operating conditions and required agreements remain ahead in the review process.

Monsees said that persons who are United States Citizens, residents of Oklahoma, and at least 17 ½ years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.

Applications must be received by the County Election Board or postmarked no later than midnight, October 9. Applications postmarked after that time will be accepted, but will not be processed until after the November 3 election. Applications may also be submitted to any motor vehicle agency that is also an official voter registration agency by the submission deadline.

Applicants will be notified in writing when their application has been processed. Approved voters will receive a Voter Identification Card in the mail. Some may receive a letter that explains the reason or reasons the application was not approved. Monsees said those who do not receive a response within 30 days of submitting their application should contact the County Election Board office immediately.

The Garfield County Election Board reminds voters that applications must be approved by the County Election Board Secretary in order to vote.

Registered voters who have moved to Garfield County from a different county or state will need to complete a new Voter Registration Application in order to be eligible for elections in Garfield County. If you have moved within the county and need to update your address, you may make changes online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or complete a Voter Registration Application.

Voter Registration Applications can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma.gov/elections. You may also complete a form at your County Election Board. Most post offices, tag agencies, and public libraries have applications available upon request.

ABSENTEE BALLOTS

Voters in Garfield County who want an absentee ballot mailed to them for the November 3, 2026, election should apply now, County Election Board Secretary Shari Monsees said today.

Absentee ballots are available to all registered voters, provided they are eligible to vote in the election requested. No excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot.

The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot is 5 p.m. Monday, October 19, 2026. Voters may submit a request using the OK Voter Portal at Oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp. Request forms are also available at Oklahoma.gov/elections and at the Garfield County Election Board office located at 903 Failing Avenue, Enid.

Monsees reminds voters to allow time for an absentee ballot to be received, completed, and returned by mail to the County Election Board. “With some exceptions, all absentee ballot affidavits must be notarized before being returned. Voters should give themselves plenty of time to make sure all steps have been followed and that the ballot is returned on time in order to be counted,” Monsees said.

Voters exempt from having an absentee ballot affidavit notarized include those who are physically incapacitated and those who care for physically incapacitated individuals that cannot be left alone. Voters who request a “physically incapacitated” ballot must have the signature on their absentee ballot affidavit witnessed by two people.

Military personnel and residents living overseas, along with their spouses and dependents, are also eligible for certain allowances. Military personnel should contact the Voting Services Officer in their unit for an Absentee Ballot Application. Residents living overseas may obtain Absentee Ballot Applications from any United States military installation or United States Embassy or Consulate. Military personnel and overseas citizens who are already registered voters in Oklahoma may apply for absentee ballots using the OK Voter Portal at Oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp. Those who need to complete a new Voter Registration Application should apply through the Federal Voting Assistance Program at FVAP.gov.

All completed absentee ballots must be received by mail to your County Election Board no later than 7 p.m. on Election Day. Hand-delivered absentee ballots must be received no later than the end of the business the Monday before the Election Day.

EARLY VOTING

Early voting begins Wednesday, October 28 for registered voters in Garfield County. Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on Election Day have the option of voting early at their County Election Board Office, 903 Failing Avenue, Enid.

Garfield County Election Board Secretary, Shari Monsees, said early voting is open to all registered voters. “You don’t need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted by the County Election Board or State Election Board – from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on Election Day or who want to avoid long lines,” Monsees said.

Early voting is available Wednesday-Friday, October 28-30, from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 31, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Garfield County Election Board Office located at 903 Failing Avenue, Enid. Monsees reminds voters that early voting is not available at polling locations.

Some voters may need assistance to vote because they are blind or visually disabled, physically disabled or infirmed, or illiterate. Such individuals may request to have an assistant or vote privately and independently using the ATI device attached to the voting device. Those who require assistance should talk to the precinct official or contact the County Election Board directly for instructions.

SAMPLE BALLOTS

Sample ballots are now available for the November 3 Election. Voters can view or download a sample ballot using the State Election Board OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ovp or pick up a copy at the Garfield County Election Board during normal business hours.

Garfield County Election Board Secretary Shari Monsees reminds voters that sample ballots are tailored to each voter and their precinct. Only voters that have an election will be able to view a sample ballot in the portal. “If the OK Voter Portal indicates that you have no sample ballots available, it means you are not eligible to vote in an upcoming election. We recommend checking the OK Voter Portal to make sure you have an election before heading to the polls,” said Monsees.

Monsees said sample ballots will also be posted outside every precinct polling place on Election Day, so voters can review them before casting their votes.

Voting Information

You can register to vote if you are a citizen of the United States, a resident of the State of Oklahoma, and 18 years old or older.

Felons - A convicted felon may not register for a period equal to the time of the original sentence. A convicted felon who has been pardoned may register.

Persons Judged Incapacitated - Persons judged incapacitated by a court may not register to vote.

You must fill out a voter registration application form. Voter registration applications are available at your County Election Board, post offices, tag agencies, libraries and many other public locations. You will be offered a voter registration application when you get your driver's license and when you apply for assistance at some government agencies. You also may download an application form. You must sign and date the oath printed on the form. When you sign the voter registration application form, you swear that you are eligible to register to vote.

You may submit your voter registration application form at any time. However, voter identification cards cannot be issued during the 24 days prior to an election. If your registration application is received by the county election board during the 24 days before an election, you will not receive your voter identification card until after the election.

Polls are open in Oklahoma from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Polling lines are normally longest before and after work and at lunch.

Oklahoma law requires everyone who votes in person at a polling place to provide a valid proof of identity before receiving a ballot. There are three ways for you to prove your identity:

• Show a valid photo ID issued by the federal, state or a tribal government.
• Show the free voter identification card issued to every voter by his or her county election board.
• Sign an affidavit and cast a provisional ballot. The ballot will be counted after Election Day if the information provided matches official voter registration records.

Funeral service for Ruth Ilene Schultz will be 2:00 pm Monday, October 19, 2026 in the Pond Creek Christian Church. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery, Enid under the direction of Anderson-Burris Funeral Home and Crematory, Enid. Visitation with the family will be Saturday 4:00 to 5:00 pm at the funeral home.

Ruth was born September 13, 1932 in Lincoln township, Garfield County, Oklahoma. She was the fourth of eight children born to Clarence and Sena Postier. She left for her heavenly home on October 14, 2026. She was living at Brookdale Assisted Living in Enid, where she had lived for one year. She graduated from Hunter High School in 1950. On January 14, 1950, Ruth married Kenneth Schultz. They made their home on a farm outside of Hunter. She was a farmer’s wife from the very beginning of their marriage. Ruth brought many meals to the harvest field. Her specialty was fried chicken and cherry pie. If she wasn’t cooking or driving the wheat truck, she was home taking care of her four children. Later in life, she loved to sew, quilt and work in her beautiful yard.

After losing her husband, Kenneth in 1994, she married Bill Jackson in 2005. Ruth was a member of Pond Creek First Christian Church.

The staff at Brookdale were such a blessing to her family. Their care was above and beyond.

Ruth was preceded in death by husbands, Kenneth Schultz and Bill Jackson; parents, Clarence and Sena Postier; brothers and their wives, CJ (Mary), Ervin, Cecil (Myrtle), John (Margie), Ray Dean (Joyce) and Fred Postier.

She is survived by two sons, Dennis and Marilyn Schultz and Bryan and Carol Schultz, all of Pond Creek; two daughters, Deb Schultz of Enid and Beverly and Wayne Bennett of Mounds, Oklahoma.
Grandchildren, Ashley and John Priest, Brooke and Brett Wilson, Darrin and Allison Schultz, Brady Schultz, Bly Schultz, Blake and Ali Schultz, Brandon and Starla Halcomb, Mindy Halcomb, Nick Halcomb, Amy Bennett Towe and Dusty and Jennifer Bennett; great grandchildren, Courtney, Cole, Case, Kade, Kayla, Gage, Suttyn, Austyn Jo, Dylan, Presley, Piper, Casen, Callie Ruth, Eli (Abby), Addison (Austin), Emerson, Boston and Zoey; sister, Clara (Ray) Hasselwander; sisters-in-law, Patsy and Faith Postier; numerous nieces, nephews, who loved her dearly. She was lovingly called “Sis” by all the Postier family.

The funeral for Haruko Kay Hall, 90 year-old Enid resident is 2:00PM Friday, October 23, 2026 in the Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel.

Rev. Jesse Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Haruko was born on August 11, 1936 in Okinawa, Japan and died Monday, October 19, 2026 in Brookdale Nursing Home in Enid. She married Bill Hall in Okinawa on August 21, 1971. The couple made their home in Enid.

Haruko was born in Okinawa, Japan to Shosei and Nabe Nagodo. She was the third of 6 children.

She met her husband Bill Hall while he was on tour of duty with the US Navy. They married August 21, 1971.

After Bill retired from the Navy they moved to Havre, MT. In 1995, they moved to US Border Station Tok Alaska where they retired in 2002. They moved to Park Hill, OK to be closer to family and then in 2023 settled in Brookdale Senior Living Facility in Enid.

Haruko was preceded in death by her beloved husband Bill, her parents and siblings, sisters Yasuko, Hisako, Akiko and brothers Seiko and Seiban. She is survived by her Aunt Donna Hickerson and cousin; Debra Foster, Dwight Tim and Chris Hickerson and David Shumate.

Cheryl Ann Brotherson, 73 of Enid, passed away on September 6, 2026. She was born on August 24, 1953, in Enid, Oklahoma, to William Joseph Jankey and Irene Jankey (Thompson).
Cheryl was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and sister whose life was enriched by her love for family, faith, and the simple joys of everyday life.

She married Monte Brotherson on March 5, 2000, in Enid, Oklahoma, and together they shared a life filled with love and companionship.

Cheryl was a member of her church community, where she generously gave of her time and heart to serving others. She watched toddlers during church services, helped prepare Wednesday dinners, and participated in various other volunteer activities. Her willingness to lend a helping hand reflected her caring spirit and her commitment to her church family. She also enjoyed being involved in her community and supporting the next generation through the school PTA. Cheryl loved learning new things and frequently took classes at Autry including photography, auto-related activities, and tiling. She especially treasured spending time with her grandchildren, enjoying their activities and making memories with them. Gardening and sewing were also among the activities she enjoyed.

Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Monte Brotherson; her children, Kasiah Robinson and Krystal Dawson; her brothers, William “Bill” Jankey, David Jankey, and John Jankey; her sister, Sheila Broadway; and her cherished grandchildren and other extended family members and friends.

Cheryl’s life was a testament to the importance of family, faith, service, and finding joy in the things that matter most. Her loving presence, generous spirit, and the memories she created with those around her will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

The services celebrating and honoring the life of David Winston Grissett, 82, of Enid, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2026, at First United Methodist Church in Enid, Oklahoma. A celebration of David’s life will follow from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Oakwood Country Club.

David Winston Grissett, 82, of Enid, Oklahoma, passed away on September 22, 2026, in Overland Park, Kansas.

David was born on January 23, 1944, in Lake Charles, Louisiana, to Daniel Baxter and Bertha Nuñez Grissett. The youngest of four children, he worked alongside his father, Dan, at Grissett’s Hardware throughout high school. He graduated from LaGrange High School and McNeese State University, where he was a member of the Theta Rho Chapter of Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

In December 1969, David married Marilyn Miller Fournet. Together they raised three children—Bill, Todd, and Allison—and shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Although David carried his Louisiana roots with him throughout his life, he and Marilyn made Enid their home, building a family and forming friendships that would span generations.

For 45 years, David served the Enid community as a State Farm agent. To David, the work was about far more than policies and paperwork. It was about helping people protect what mattered most, guiding them through difficult moments, and being someone they could trust. Many families remained with him for decades, reflecting the personal care, knowledge, and dependability he brought to his work.

David and Marilyn were longtime supporters of the Enid community, quietly and generously contributing to organizations that served families and strengthened the lives of others. David took an active interest in Enid’s future and participated in efforts to help shape and improve the community he called home. His faith was also important to him, and he was a devoted member and supporter of the First United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Westminster Church of Enid.

Later in life, David loved playing golf with friends at Oakwood Country Club and traveling with them to play memorable courses around the country. He treasured time with his grandchildren, especially teaching them to fish at Willow Lake.

The Tomcats—a group of couples whose friendship became like family—were a constant in David and Marilyn’s life in Enid. They raised their children together, traveled together, and gathered for weekly dinners, sharing a bond that endured through every season of life.

David’s favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, although in the Grissett family it was never limited to a single day. He prepared his unforgettable Cajun dishes for “Cajun Night” before Thanksgiving and followed them the next day with his famous Thanksgiving dinner, which reliably left everyone in what the family affectionately called a turkey-induced coma.

Those who knew David will remember his bright, genuine smile and the warmth of his greeting. He loved people and took a sincere interest in getting to know them. He was generous with both his love and his actions, worked tirelessly on behalf of his policyholders, and lived for his family and friends.

David is survived by his wife, Marilyn; his sons, Bill Fournet and wife Christy, and Todd Grissett and wife Tona; his daughter, Allison Grissett Wilcox and husband Jeff; his grandchildren, Holden Grissett and wife Mariah, Max Grissett, Douglas Fournet, David Fournet, John Fournet, Katherine Wilcox, and Emily Wilcox; and his great-grandson, Arthur.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daniel Baxter and Bertha Grissett; his brother, Daniel Baxter Grissett Jr.; and his sisters, Anna Lou Miller and Billie Sue Thomas.

A Celebration of Life will be held on a later date.

A Celebration of Life service for LaWanda Jo Tebow age 93 of Enid will be 10:00 am Thursday at the Ladusau-Evans Chapel with Rev. Alan Seibel officiating. Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.

LaWanda was born December 14, 1932 near Renfrow, OK. to Otto H. and Christine L. (Stocksen) Unbehauen and passed away Friday, October 16, 2026 in Brookdale Assisted Living. She graduated from Lamont High School. She married Lyle Tebow on September 17, 1950 in Lamont, OK. She followed Lyle during his military service. After the service commitment, they moved to Enid in 1955. LaWanda worked in the accounting dept at Vance AB for 16 years. She became a realtor and sold many houses in her 25 years. LaWanda was awarded Realtor of the Year by the Enid Board of Realtors for 2 years.

LaWanda and Lyle are members of Oakwood Christian Church. She was a member of several different clubs. She enjoyed hosting and entertaining in her home.

LaWanda is survived by her husband Lyle, sons, Keith (Kristi) Tebow and Scott (Christy) Tebow, daughter Lisa (Steve) Bloom, seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and a sister Phyllis Kay and several nieces.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters Betty Cross, Marilyn Ballard, and great grandchild Harvey Johnson.

Ginger was born October 30, 1953, to James H. II and Jill (Athey) Moore in Enid, Oklahoma and passed from this life October 14, 2026, in Enid, Oklahoma.

She was raised and educated in Enid graduating from Enid High School with the class of 1971. She went on to attend Oklahoma State University. She worked at First National Bank of Hennessey and later OTASCO, where she met the love of her life Gary Hladik. She married Gary Hladik July 10, 1987, in Hennessey, Oklahoma. She loved being a mom and devoted her time to caring for her children while they were growing up. She later enjoyed a career with Hennessey Public Schools for many years. She was always very involved in her community and church and was a member of the Hennessey Child Study Club for over thirty-seven years holding every office over the years. Ginger was a devoted Mom and Grammy, always willing to help her family, paying no mind to the miles that may separate. Her greatest legacy is the love she poured into others – a love that will continue to be felt in the lives of everyone she touched.

She is survived by her husband Gary Hladik, of the home, her children, Adam Cain and his wife Laurie, of Edmond, Jamie Khosravi and her husband Darian, of Tuttle, and Jason Hladik, and his wife Emily, of Friendswood, eight grandchildren, Braden Gwarthey, Ashlyn Davis and her husband Noah, Dessa Guiterrez and her husband Matthew, Mallee and Peyton Cain, Charlie, Henry, and Annie Louise Hladik; and one great grandson Bennett Porter Guiterrez; her siblings, James H. Moore III and his wife Judy, of Quebec, Ruth Freeman, of New York, Cindra Beck, of Colorado, and Cindy Moore, of Tampa, Florida and Rob Freeman, of Baker, Florida; and numerous other family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents James H. II and Jill Moore.

Memorials may be made in her honor to Forgotten Church or Our Daily Bread with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.

A Celebration of Life for Janet Coontz, age 73, of Enid, is 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 20, 2026, at Oakwood Christian Church with Rev. Eric Keller and Pastor Alan Seibel officiating, with burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Service arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory. The family will receive friends from 6-7 pm, Monday, October 19, 2026 at the funeral home.

Janet was born April 14, 1953 in Cherokee, OK to Delmar and Melva (Kuhlmann) Allen, and passed away October 11, 2026, in Oklahoma City. Janet attended Byron-Driftwood School until her sophomore year and graduated from Burlington High School in 1970. Janet married Larry Coontz, on June 7, 1970 in Cherokee, OK and he passed away on July 27, 2018. They were blessed with two children, Scott Allen and Patricia Anne. During their 48 years of marriage, they enjoyed life, shopping, traveling, and attending events of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Janet was an avid reader from a young age. She encouraged her family to read and would read to them every chance she had.

Janet was blessed to be a stay-at-home mom for many years. In the evening when Larry was home to watch the children, she would sell Home Interiors. When the children got older, Janet went back to school to receive her Special Library Media degree from Northwestern State University and later got her Master's degree. They moved to Enid where she taught for 21 years at Glenwood Elementary as the librarian until she retired in 2011. Janet was a National Board-Certified Teacher and traveled during the summers throughout the United States judging applicants.

After her retirement she went on to become a Master Gardener with the OSU Extension office. Janet served in many capacities, where she chased her lifelong passion for gardening and flowers.

Larry and Janet were active members of Oakwood Christian Church where they volunteered in many roles. Janet's unwavering faith helped her through her battle with cancer. On October 11, 2026, she was received into the arms of Jesus where Janet was reunited with her husband and family.

Janet is preceded in death by her parents; and husband Larry Coontz. She is survived two children, Scott Coontz and wife Sheila, of Edmond; Patricia Ledford and husband Rusty, of Enid; eight grandchildren, Ryan of Edmond, Cody and fiancé Jaden of Garber, and Brandon Coontz and wife Lauren, of Edmond; Rylee Schnaithman and husband Travis, of Garber; Kacie LeGrand and husband Reid of Edmond; Mackenna Hammock and husband Cole, of Enid; Ethan and Emma Ledford, of Enid; seven great-grandchildren, Mack, McCoy, and Maylee Schnaithman, Reese and Sloane LeGrand, Haven and Gracie Hammock; two brothers, Bill Allen and Roger and wife LeaAnn Allen all of Cherokee, sister June and husband Dan Muff of Garner, Iowa along with many other family and friends.

Memorials in Janet's name may be made to Oakwood Christian Church and Master Gardeners Club with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory serving as custodian of the funds.
