Erma L. Kokojan

3374044The Mass of Christian burial for Erma L. Kokojan, 84, year-old former Waukomis resident will be 10:00AM Tuesday, November 10, 2015 in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Bison. The Rev. Edward Menasco will officiate. Burial will follow in Bison Cemetery under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Recitation of the Rosary will be Monday evening at 7:00PM in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bison.

Erma was born on September 25, 1931 in Garber to Charles and Mary(Bartunek) Schovanec and passed away Saturday, November 7, 2015 in St. John’s Medical Center in Tulsa. Her early education was in a country school and later graduated with the class of 1949.

On October 28, 1952 she married Wilfrid B. Kokojan in St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Bison. The couple made their home of the family farm that Wilfrid’s grandparents settled in the land run in 1893. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in 2012.

Erma was a very active member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar society for many years and held every office in her Altar society. St. Joseph’s was proud to honor Erma as their “ Woman of Achievement “ recipient for 2003. She was past president of the Enid Region CCW and also served on the Oklahoma City ACCW for nearly twenty years. Erma also worked on the election board for 40 years.

She enjoyed aerobics classes, quilting, sewing, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Erma was a great cook and enjoyed hosting big family dinners. Everyone loved her fried chicken and her "famous" cherry pie. She and Wilfrid loved attending their children and grand-childrens sporting events, piano and violin recitals and any interests they had were supported. Her most important job was to be the best wife, mother, grandmother, and friend she could be.

She is survived by her 6 children; Diane Dillingham and husband Tim of Enid, Marianne Kokojan and husband Edd Cochran of OKC, Gregory Kokojan and wife Christine of Drummond, Elizabeth Black and husband Jeff of Owasso,OK, Kevin Kokojan of Enid, and Janet Schenck and husband Steve of Leawood, KS. 13 grandchildren, 14great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, two sisters, Wilma Petru and Sister Deborah Schovanec and one brother Virgil Schovanec, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wilfrid in 2013,three brothers and two sisters, and one great-grandchild, Caeden Mathis.

Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to either St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or Our Daily Bread.
