Emma North Barker

3824192Emma North Barker, 100, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, July 27, 2016, in Abilene, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home, 601 West Broadway, in Enid, Oklahoma, with (minister TBA). Burial will follow at Enid City Cemetery.

Emma was born in Marshall, Oklahoma, to Harvey Frank North and Mary Dievert North on April 6, 1916. She graduated from Douglas High School and attended Business College in Enid, Oklahoma. She married Joe Lee Barker on July 24, 1937, in Enid, Oklahoma. They lived in Enid with their three children until the family moved to Abilene, Texas, in the 1950's. Emma worked as a secretary for the Abilene Independent School District for almost 25 years. Upon retirement, Emma enjoyed most of all, her family, and her hobbies of sewing, crochet, quilting, and gardening. Emma was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Barker, daughter, Eunice Lee, her two brothers, Evert Snyder and Frank North, and her sister, Faye Harmon. Emma family was her pride and joy. She is survived by her children: Gail Wheeler and husband Mike, Donna Thormeyer and husband Arnold, Max Barker and wife, Mary; grandchildren Michelle White, John Milne and wife Minerva, Tammy Stephens and husband James, Renee McFerran and husband Gary, Leigh Barker, Zachary Barker, Wes Barker, and Molly Barker; step grandchildren: Tommy Thormeyer and wife Tina, Mike Miller and wife Kelly, Beth Saxton and husband Scott, Sarah Johnson and husband Greg; great grandchildren: Dylan Milne, Andrew and Jason Kissko, Jimmy and Kyle Stephens, and Tyler Scurlock and wife Kristen; step great grandchildren: Amanda, Tony, and Chris Macke; Jon, Chris and Sam Thormeyer; Andy, Jacob and Ethan Miller; Andrew and Joshua Saxton; and one step great-great grandson: Gavin Closs, and numerous nieces, nephews and their family members. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Kindred Hospice, Covenant Place of Abilene, and The Oaks at Radford Hills who provided care and were her special home for the last year of her life.
