Byron Allen (Woody) Wood

Byron Allen Wood died peacefully at his daughter’s home in Enid on Saturday, April 15, 2017 after a brief illness. Allen, or “Woody” as he was known to friends in his adult years, was born in Guymon, Oklahoma on April 29, 1960 to James Byron Wood and Teresa Ann Chapman Wood. He grew up with older brother Rick and sister Carol in Beaver, Oklahoma, in a household that was as American normal as can be. His youth was spent playing with Cub Scouts, Pinewood Derbies, Jaycees BB Gun shooting competitions, Methodist Youth Fellowship, family vacations, baseball, football and basketball. Allen had a good sharp brain, was recognized for academic achievement in high school, and represented his community at Oklahoma Boys’ State. Allen attended Oklahoma State University, then worked in the oilfields and at construction jobs throughout the Oklahoma and Texas panhandles. His tidy nature and talent for figuring out how to fix things around the house led him ultimately to work as a handyman for many years in Elkhart, KS.

In the last months of his life, he transformed a house into a home for his daughter and painted his sister’s home. Allen is probably best remembered for his clever wit and his grin, which never failed to widen into a broad smile. Besides his brother and sister who survive him, Allen was blessed with two children and three grandchildren: Damian Marc Pugh and his son Ely, and Cassie Beth Bocox, her husband Ryan, and their children, Trystin and Charlotte. Allen was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Terri Wood, but leaves to remember him aunts, uncles and a host of cousins with whom he spent his childhood.

Celebration of life service for Allen will be held at Stittsworth Memory Chapel (2420 N. Washington, Enid, OK) at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 21, 2017. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Hospice Circle of Love., 314 S. 3rd Street, Enid, OK 73701. Remembrances may be shared online at www.stittsworthfuneralservices.com.
