A Celebration of Life Service for Gil Everett Gilbert, age 70, of Enid, will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Willow View Global Methodist Church, with Reverend Mark McAdow and Reverend Scott Heusel officiating; with burial following in the Memorial Park Cemetery. Anyone wishing to go to the cemetery is welcome to do so. The family will remain at the church for visitation following the service. Service arrangements are under the direction of Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory.
Gil was born on April 26, 1956, in Enid, OK to Clarence and Esther (Sheeks) Gilbert, and passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Oklahoma City, OK with his family by his side,
Gil graduated from Enid High School in 1974. He attended Okmulgee Tech completing the Auto Mechanics Program in 1977. Gil worked as an auto mechanic in Enid for many years. He joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard in1977. He served as a mechanic in the HHB, 45th FA BDE until 2000. He retired as an E6 having served in the same section during his entire military career. Gil started his career at the OK Dept of Corrections at Enid Community Corrections Center in 1992 working 26 years retiring in 2018.
Gil married the love of his life, Lezlie Marler, on November 16, 1979, in Bivens Chapel in the Marshall Building on the Phillips University Campus. They were each other’s rocks, supporters, encouragers for 46 years. Gil was an active member of Willow View Global Methodist Church where he made his confession of faith and was baptized June 9, 2024.
Gil had many interests and passions in his lifetime. Gil was a Boy Scout and received the coveted Eagle Scout Award Jan 18, 1972. He was a mechanic with Bill Beebe racing in Woodard, Longdale and Enid. He and his “brother from other parents” enjoyed goose and duck hunting for many years taking both Bradley and Christopher with them teaching them to hunt as well. Gil was an Enid High School Big Blue Marching Band parent volunteer for the 10 years his three kids were there and another year while his granddaughter was active in band. He drove the equipment truck to contests and out of state trips, built props and any other jobs that came up like repairing instruments. He enjoyed watching Nascar and Cardinals Baseball. While recently enjoying concerts of the Gaither Vocal Band, Mark Lowry, David Phellps and other Southern Gospel artists, both old and new. After his retirement Gil and Lezlie opened Lakeview Thrift. While there, they both enjoyed sewing with Gil being the fabric cutter and Lezlie being the assembler. They enjoyed traveling and selling their creations at craft shows
He is survived by his wife Lezlie of the home; two children, Christopher and wife Kelsey Gilbert of Tulsa, and Shawna Gilbert of Alva; grandkids Kaylee and Gabriel Lantz both of Enid; sister-in-law Denise and Tim Graham of Enid; niece Milinda and Brian Kuechler; nephew Jesse and Christina Emmerson and family; niece Aranda and Michael Dirham and family and niece Stephanie Emmerson and family; as well as many, many other family and friends.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents, son Bradley Gilbert, in-laws Loy and Anna Mae Marler, Sister-In-Law Peggy Ann Marler Newell, brother-in-law Don Newell, and nephew Micah Emmerson.
Anyone that knew Gil knows he was never a “suit and tie” kind of guy. He was known for always being in either blue jeans or shorts and funny T-shirts. In honor of his preferred dress code, the family would like to suggest everyone come comfortable and casual to the service.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Bradley Gilbert Memorial Scholarship, Northwestern Oklahoma State University, Alva with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home and Crematory serving as custodians of the funds.
