Lawson W. House III, USAF Lieutenant Colonel, (Ret.) was born on December 5, 1948 in Dallas, Texas to Lawson W. House Jr, and Zollie O. (Poynter) House, and peacefully passed away in Enid on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Lawson grew up in Harlingen, Texas and graduated from Pan AM University with a degree in political science. He then enlisted in the Air Force, and after completing Officer Candidate School, he went on to earn his wings after graduating pilot training from Webb Air Force Base, Big Spring, Texas. In the Air Force, he flew the B-52 and went on to shape young pilots as an Instructor Pilot at Vance Air Force Base. He often commented on how flying the T-37 was one of his favorite assignments. Additionally, Lawson flew the C-5 in the USAF Reserves, where he eventually retired after 22 years of service. Upon retirement from the military Lawson began his new career as a pilot for American Airlines. He eventually retired as Captain on the Boeing 757 / 767. Once he returned to Enid full time, he flew a Pilatus PC12 for WB Johnson Grain & Seed, until 2005 when he retired for the 3rd and final time.
Lawson loved to cook, bake, grill, and enjoyed spending time in his backyard. He enjoyed being around family, friends and his home.
He is survived by his wife Carolyn House; 2 sons Christopher (April) House and Jonathan (Stephanie); 2 grandchildren Bailey and Braeden House; his brother Dennis House (Karen) and their son Justin. Lawson was known as Uncle Blossom to Heather (Billy) Hiser and Shannon (Mark) Briley; and as Uncle Papa to Lyric and Teagan Brown and Austyn and Haleigh Hiser.
Lawson was preceded in death by his parents, his sister and brother in law Paula and Jamie McClanahan, mother in law Betty Schindler, and sister in law Janice Fields.
Lawson’s family will be having a private service for him at a later date. Memorials may be made through Anderson-Burris to Redeemer Lutheran Church Building Fund or Enid SPCA.
