Betty Jo Comer (Dysart) was born in Amarillo Texas in 1940 to Floyd and Anna Dysart and passed away January 15, 2026 in Enid.
Her family moved to the Enid area when she was one to escape the dust bowl which had claimed the life of one of her four sisters. She attended and graduated from Memorial Catholic High School in 1958. Post high school, Betty Jo was a Carmelite Novitiate in the Oklahoma City convent. After leaving the convent she worked at Enid State school and attended Enid business college. She then began working for Champlin Oil in Enid as a computer specialist. After a long tenure with Champlin, Betty Jo went to work for Vance Air Force Base as a computer specialist and retired after 30 years in 2012.
In the spring of 1974 Betty Jo and Clay Comer fell in love and were married December 14, 1974. Betty Jo was active in the Enid Catholic community throughout her lifetime. She served in many areas at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church including being a Eucharistic Minister, Totus Tuus, Altar Society, the food pantry, choir, the Cursillo Group, Bible study, and many others. She also supported many Enid endeavors such as Meals On Wheels, Loaves and Fishes, Forgotten Ministries, as many more.
Betty Jo had a true passion for people and was a living example of putting others’ needs ahead of her own. Those who knew her knew they could ask for anything. Her smile was contagious and her laughter still rings in our memories.
Betty Jo was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Norma Jean Dysart, Deloris Fore, Mary Lou Walsh, and her husband, Clay.
She is survived by her daughter Doris Clingenpeel (husband Jeremy) and daughter Stephanie Chitsey; grandchildren Krystian, Sheldon & Jaydon Chadwick and Preston, Anna & Avree Clingenpeel; sister, Floydean Kratzer; nephew Tim Walsh; nieces Laura Kirshner, Kathy Kratzer, and Cindy (Todd) Felber.
