RESIDENTS TURN OUT FOR CONVENTION HALL GRAND REOPENING EVENTS

Over 2,500 people turned out for the week’s worth of activities surrounding the grand reopening of Convention Hall last week.

The turnout pleased Convention Hall general manager Keller Taylor. “Our goal was to create the opportunity, via the right mix of events, during the Grand Re-Opening week for the community to experience the historic facility for the first time, again. I believe we accomplished this through the committed and loyal management staff here in Enid along with the support of Barry Strafacci (Regional Vice President, Global Spectrum), Dean Dennis (GM in Owensboro, KY), Maria Rainsdon (GM in Clovis NM) and Eric Copeland (Executive Chef in Pueblo CO).“

Convention Hall grand reopening activities started on Tuesday, Nov. 13 with over 450 people attending the City of Enid holiday party in the Grand Ballroom. The following day over 100 Chamber of Commerce members attended the monthly Noon Network luncheon held in the fourth-floor meeting rooms and in conjunction with Williams Broadcasting (KOFM/KGWA). The Thursday lunch and ribbon cutting brought over 350 people to the Grand Ballroom while the Friday night Enid Arts Council fundraising dinner had over 150 people dancing to the sounds of Beatles tribute band “A Hard Night’s Day.”

The crown jewel event was the community open house on Sunday, Nov. 18, which followed Enid’s annual Veterans’ parade. After a short ceremony on the Convention Hall steps featuring a living history performance of the 1921 original Grand Opening, the doors opened and over 1,500 area residents came in to see the renovations and enjoy free hamburgers and hot dogs. Many attended the annual Veterans Legacy Awards ceremony in the Grand Ballroom, including Oklahoma
Lieutenant Governor and Enid native Todd Lamb who presented the Legacy Veteran Lifetime Achievement award to his unsuspecting father, Oklahoma Secretary of Veterans Affairs Norman Lamb.

Convention Hall is Enid’s premiere conference and meeting facility, featuring the 11,000 square foot Grand Ballroom, a 3,000 square foot Junior Ballroom, over 5,500 square feet of meeting rooms, and a 14 person Board Room. Neighboring Enid Event Center is scheduled for completion on May 31st, 2013 with the Grand Opening shortly thereafter in June 2013.
