ENID, OK - The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) announced that all adult Oklahomans are eligible to schedule a COVID-19 vaccine appointment beginning on Monday, March 29.

Oklahoma has consistently ranked among the top states in vaccine distribution and is one of the first states to open vaccine appointments to the general public.

“This is a momentous day for the state of Oklahoma,” said Dr. Lance Frye, Commissioner of Health. “I want to thank all of our public health staff, partners and volunteers who have served on the front lines and kept vaccines moving safely and efficiently. Navigating the COVID-19 pandemic has been a huge undertaking and a massive public health challenge. Lives have been saved as a result of the drive and determination of frontline medical workers, county health departments and our partners across the state.”

“Opening phase 4 is certainly a milestone, but we haven’t won the fight yet,” said Keith Reed, Deputy Commissioner of Health. “We’ve met some ambitious goals leading the state’s largest vaccination effort in a very short period of time. However, we can’t let our guard down just yet. Now that everyone is eligible, don’t wait to get your vaccine. The best thing you can do to protect yourself and others is to get it as soon as you’re able.”

The vaccine is available at no cost. Oklahomans 16+ are encouraged to register through the state’s Vaccine Scheduler Portal at vaccinate.ok.gov if they haven’t done so already. After registration, they will see available phase 4 appointments on the portal starting March 29. Appointments for phases 1-3 will also remain available on the portal.

As a reminder, the state’s vaccine portal is just one option for scheduling an appointment — vaccine appointments are also available through many other local pandemic providers across the state. You can ask your personal healthcare provider about the vaccine, or you can use the federal vaccine locator at vaccinefinder.org to check for appointments at local pharmacies.
Several companies nationwide have adjusted their production facilities to help as the pandemic spreads. Aidance Scientific is one of the companies that has reconfigured its facility to produce thousands of Hand Sanitizer units for state agencies during the COVID-19 crisis. Oklahoma welcomes local companies to join the fight against the pandemic.

ENID, OK - Maggie Jackson and Rea Johnson with the Garfield County Health Department posted a community health update on Friday, March 5. Updates on COVID-19 are posted on the City of Enid Facebook page every other week.

Garfield County has had 7,599 total confirmed COVID-19 cases n the past year. We have had 7,330 recoveries and currently have 191 active COVID-19 cases. There have been 78 deaths total in Garfield County with about 25 happening in the last month.

Although the numbers continue to fall the health department encourages residents to wear masks, wash hands and keep six feet away from each other. Hospitalizations have dropped although there are patients in the hospital.

Over 50% of residents over the age of 65 have now received the COVID-19 vaccine with about 10% overall now having both shots. Garfield County is now in Phase 2 of the Oklahoma Vaccine Plan which includes vaccinating teachers and school staff.

Phase 2 also includes adults of any age with comorbidities. It also includes workers and persons living or working in congregate settings who are at high risk of exposure to and transmission of COVID infection.

Phase 2 Oklahoma residents should register online at vaccinate.oklahoma.gov. You'll get a link in your email to book your appointment. Appointments are made on Wednesday for the following week. Must be at least 16 years old. 16-18 year olds should notify the staff of your age.

Oklahoma is now sixth in the nation for distributing the COVID vaccine. Over 20,000 doses have been distributed in Garfield County. Appointments are available and are not booking up as quickly as before. Shots are given at Oakwood Mall.

Appointments will continue at Oakwood Mall for the foreseeable future. Phase 3 should open up soon. See the Oklahoma Vaccine Plan HERE.

A quick reminder that it is your responsibility to make sure you do not make a booster appointment too early. They WILL NOT be able to vaccinate before 17 days for Pfizer and 24 for Moderna.

The CDC vaccination card you receive after getting your first dose DOES NOT guarantee you an appointment for your second. You must have an appointment through the portal for your booster.

“Data shows that social distancing is harder to maintain as it gets later at night, especially at bars,” Stitt said at the news conference.

Beginning Tuesday, November 17, state employees must wear a face mask at work and anyone visiting state buildings will also be required to wear a mask.

"These are our first actions but they will not be our last," Stitt said in a Monday press conference. Stitt also said the state will implement new actions if and when it is appropriate. "A vaccine is on its way but we need to buckle down until then," he said.

All Oklahomans are encouraged to wear a mask, wash their hands, and watch their distance.

No ending date for the new restrictions was announced at the press conference.

ENID, OK - EPS received notification that an individual at Adams Elementary has tested positive for COVID-19. After discussing the situation with local health officials, and since this person had contact with almost all students on the campus earlier this week, they have made the difficult decision to transition all Adams’ Elementary students to distance/virtual learning for two weeks in an effort to reduce the possible spread of the virus.

This move will be effective Sept. 14, 2020, and in-person instruction is expected to resume at Adams Elementary on Thursday, Sept. 24,2020.

**All other schools will continue to attend class in-person during this time. **

The State Department of Health has released this week’s numbers reflecting that Garfield County has had 45.16 positive COVID-19 cases this week per 100,000 population (on a 7-day rolling average). This keeps our county in the orange level, what the OSDH defines as “moderate risk”. So next week, all other students will continue with in-person traditional learning.

The EPS plan states that if our county moves to 50 or more positive COVID-19 cases per 100,000 population, as indicated by the OSDH, the entire district will move to distance/virtual learning. EPS will continue to communicate with you after the weekly report is published each Friday around noon. Families should prepare for the possibility in the future of our entire district having to move to distance/virtual learning for two weeks (or more) if cases do continue to rise.

As more COVID-19 cases are confirmed in our county, it is important to remain vigilant. Monitor yourself and your family for symptoms, which include fever, cough and shortness of breath. If you or any member of your family exhibit these symptoms, please contact your medical provider for advice immediately and quarantine for 14 days. Symptoms usually appear 2-14 days after exposure.

Health officials have advised the following:

• ALL Students pre-k through 12th grade students should social distance from each other (to the extent possible).

• Cloth masks decrease the transmission of the virus, but are not 100%. Students may take short mask breaks, just not all at the same time.

• If a student is quarantined due to a classmate testing positive, the quarantined student’s siblings DO NOT have to quarantine too.

• Several teachers and parents are wanting to get tested if they are exposed. You DO NOT need to be tested unless you are symptomatic. If you are exposed to someone directly and want to be tested, for optimal results you must wait 4-5 days to test after exposure.

• If you have any COVID-19 related questions please speak to your school nurse.

• Garfield County Health Department is doing a mass screening on Monday, August 24. If anyone wants/needs testing you may call 580-233-0650 to schedule a test. You must have an appointment to receive a test.

EPS will continue to follow all COVID-19 safety procedures, including wearing face masks, practice social distancing, and cleaning all areas before and after use.

Federal tax filing and payment has also been extended to July 15, 2020.
Charles Prater, Chairman of the Oklahoma Tax Commission said, “We are following IRS guidelines and want to remind Oklahomans that due dates for other tax types, including sales and withholding taxes, remain the same.”
As COVID-19 continues to disrupt many aspects of public life, the Oklahoma Tax Commission encourages taxpayers to use our online services. The lobby of our Oklahoma City main office is open for services to taxpayers which adhere to current CDC guidelines. Our Compliance Division lobby is closed at this time, as is the lobby of our Tulsa location. Taxpayers may visit our main office (2501 N Lincoln Blvd, Oklahoma City, OK) for in-person service. A key element of preventing COVID-19 spread is social distancing. One way you can practice this during tax season is using our online services to file, check the status of your return, complete identity verification processes, make payments and much more from the comfort of your home through OkTAP. Our online services also extend to our Motor Vehicle division. You can renew your registration, order a personalized plate and more through OkCARS. We strongly advise that you make use of these resources if possible. As COVID-19 continues to evolve, we will provide updates. Please check this page for the latest information regarding the availability of our services.

ENID, OK – The City Council voted Tuesday night 4-3 vote to adhere to Gov. Kevin Stitt’s statewide reopening plan moving Enid directly to Phase 3. Ezzell, Waddell and Norwood voted against the plan while Mason, Stallings, Allen, and Mayor Pankonin were in favor.
-
Gov. Stitt’s phase three advises residents to avoid crowded environments and continue CDC social-distancing guidelines,. If safe distancing cannot be achieved people are advised to wear a face mask.
-
Under Phase 3, businesses may resume unrestricted staffing at their worksites by observing proper CDC-recommended social distancing protocols and are recommended to continue increased cleaning and disinfecting practices.
-
Individuals should still minimize time spent in crowded environments and continue following CDC guidelines regarding social distancing.
-
Additionally, summer camps are allowed to open provided they follow safety guidelines. Businesses that had been operating by appointment only may begin accepting walk-in clients at their discretion.
-
In conjunction with the Oklahoma State Department of Health and the statewide medical community, limited visitation to hospitals may be reinstated at the discretion of the facility.
-
As the data shows COVID-19 has a significantly more profound impact on the elderly and immunocompromised populations, visitation at nursing homes and long-term care facilities will remain suspended except for end-of-life situations until explicitly lifted by a future executive order.

ENID, OK - The health, safety and well-being of our volunteers, clients and staff is the number one priority of Loaves & Fishes of Northwest Oklahoma as we face these uncertain circumstances. We also remain committed to feeding our hungry neighbors during this pandemic and doing all we can to lift up those who are in need.
-
It is with this in mind that Loaves & Fishes has made the decision to be proactive and move to boxed food distribution. In an effort to create fewer social interactions, pre-packed boxes of food will be handed out in a drive-thru setting in our parking lot.
-
As businesses begin to re-open and the restrictions ease, we wanted to update you on what that looks like at Loaves & Fishes. Due to our inability to maintain proper social distance in our waiting rooms, we’ll continue using our drive-thru model until at least the end of June. Our staff and Board will re-evaluate during that time and will develop a plan to re-start our client-choice pantry inside the building at a later date.
-
While taking all of that into careful consideration, Loaves & Fishes has decided to change our Thursday drive-thru distribution time to 9am-12pm beginning Thursday May 14th. With the weather warming up, it seems unrealistic and unsafe to have our volunteers, staff and perishable food sitting in the parking lot during the heat of the day. In order to accommodate clients who work, we will continue to have our Tuesday hours be 3pm-6pm, but will move the food and volunteers inside on days when the forecast is calling for heat.
-
Once again, we’ll begin our new Thursday hours, 9am-12pm, on May 14th and we’ll do our best to help everyone beat the heat while we continue the drive-thru model.
-
Distribution Schedule beginning 5/14/20:
Tuesdays: 3pm-6pm
Thursdays: 9am-12pm
-
Loaves & Fishes NWOK would like to assure our clients that we have plenty of food. With ongoing support from The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, we are confident that we can continue providing assistance.
-
We’d like to encourage anyone who is healthy and who feels comfortable to consider volunteering. It’s a difficult time to ask for help, but with small staff tasked with overseeing distribution, we will likely need 10-15 volunteers each day. If you are able to work with us please reach out to L&F at 580-540-9830.
-
We would ask our community to be understanding and kind to one another as we weather this pandemic together. Our Loaves & Fishes team is determined to continue providing food while still taking necessary measures that are in the best interest of clients, volunteers and staff.
The Enid dates had been June 9-13 inside Humphrey Heritage Village at the Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center.
The scholars who were to participate in this season’s Chautauqua program were arriving from all parts of the country, and the Chautauqua Council felt it was unnecessary to put the scholars, committee members or audiences at additional risk of contracting the disease.
“It is definitely in everyone’s best interests that this year’s Chautauqua be postponed,” Enid Chautauqua Council president Mike Gwinnup said. “We need to do what we can to help stop the spread of this virus. We’ll get past this and be ready for 2021.”
-
This season’s program, “20th Century Visionaries: Catalysts for Change,” will become the 2021 Chautauqua program, with dates to be announced.

ENID, OK - Universal Management & Maintenance is sanitizing businesses all over town and keeping them free from the coronavirus. Owners of the company plan to make a donation to RSVP of Enid with the profits from disinfecting and sanitizing work that comes in.
-
Earlier this month the company donated $5,000 to Loaves & Fishes to help cover the extra costs of food for those in need during this crisis.
-
Family owned and operated since 1964, Universal has been serving businesses and individuals in Enid with friendly and professional services for over 50 years.
-
Universal is owned and operated by Hamid and Matt Habibi along with Matt's wife and company office manager, Sara Habibi. Sara said their number of disinfecting jobs has been much higher than usual due to the pandemic. Universal wanted to give back by donating proceeds to help the community.
-
The cleaning company has lost a bit of business due to non-essential businesses being closed but feels fortunate to be an essential business and has not had to lay anybody off.
-
Universal uses an EPA-registered hospital-grade disinfectant which is also NSF-certified safe for food contact surfaces. It kills more than 30 bacteria, viruses and pathogens including MRSA, Pseudomonas, E. coli, Listeria, Legionella, Norovirus, Rotavirus, and canine and feline coronaviruses. The solution also eliminates odors, allergens and mold and mildew, and is an effective deodorizer.
-
Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Enid and North Central Oklahoma, Inc. (RSVP) has been an advocate for seniors, dedicated to giving voice and leadership opportunities to senior volunteers in Garfield, Grant, Noble, Alfalfa, and Major counties who help bridge the gap between those who need and those who give. RSVP is the largest organization in the aforementioned counties volunteering for solutions for seniors and other community based needs.
-
