The landfill will be open on Friday, July 3 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and closed on Saturday, July 4. The Meadowlake Golf Course will open on Friday, July 3 from 7 a.m. and close at 9 p.m. and on Saturday, July 4 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Recycling Center and Enid Public Library will be closed on Friday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 4th.

Additionally, the Enid Public Transportation Authority (EPTA) will not be operating on Friday, July 3 or Saturday, July 4.

NOTE: All trash routes will remain the same for the holiday. There will be no changes to trash schedules.

All fire hydrants in the community are known as dry barrel hydrants, meaning that there is no water in the barrel (above-ground) until the hydrant is opened. This helps ensure that the hydrants will not freeze in cold weather and will therefore be available when needed for fire emergencies. After every use and inspection, the hydrants are closed and the water drains from the barrel. Hydrants that do not drain properly or have other problems are reported to the City of Enid Public Works department for further maintenance.

This annual testing is essential to maintain the community’s Class 2 Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification, and to ensure that hydrants are operating efficiently for fire protection purposes. Along with maintaining the fire rating, this testing monitors the health of the city’s water system, identifies weak areas in the system, removes materials that settle in the water mains, and flushes out the lines. Checking each hydrant improves crew knowledge of hydrant locations. Fire department personnel will check to make sure there is adequate clearance around all fire hydrants to aid in their easy identification and access. The fire code requires at least 36 inches of clear area around the hydrant for proper access and helps assure the hydrant is visible from the road.

To allow for event setup and ensure public safety, designated road closures will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Two access points will remain open to accommodate downtown employees and businesses at the conclusion of the workday. COLLISION INVESTIGATION

MAY 16, 2026 - The EPD is seeking witnesses to a collision being investigated that occurred Friday morning.

The collision occurred about 10:40 a.m. Friday, May 15, 20206, at the intersection of Willow Road and Fourth Street. The collision involved a red Ford Flex and a white Honda Pilot.

They ask anyone who witnessed the collision to please call (580) 242-7000 or message their Facebook page.

Officers need to speak with anyone who witnessed the collision to complete their investigation.

WARMING SHELTERS AND FOOD

The First Presbyterian Church will have a warming shelter open 8am - 8pm Sat and Sun. They will serve their regular manna meal at 11am on Saturday, and an additional meal at 5pm.

Salvation Army, 518 N. Independence.

Enid Public Library, 120 W Maine.

Hope Outreach Day Center, 815 west Maine Monday-Friday.

Mercy House, 1714 S 4th will be open Friday 5 pm for shelter (Men ONLY). If you need a ride go to Hope day shelter by 4:30 pm. 815 W Maine.

Enid Welcome Table (Central Christian Church) will open the dining room on Sunday at 3:30, serve the meal at 4:30 and close at 6:00pm.

Night shelters will be provided by: Salvation Army, 518 N. Independence, for 50 people. Call (580) 237-1910.

Enid Street Outreach Services can be reached for information at (580) 603-4896 - Emergency only. They can provide warm soup and extra clothes, coffee, socks, coats and gloves if you are in need. If you need a ride during this winter storm to the shelter call them & they will pick you up and deliver you to the Salvation Army.

Forgotten Ministries will be working alongside the Enid Salvation Army to provide shelter for men this Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Due to the extreme winter temperatures, they want to be available for overflow space in case the Salvation Army is full. Right now, they still have 15 beds available. Since they only have space to accommodate men, they will make sure to make extra room for any women who are in need of shelter. They opened Friday night and will remain open all day Saturday and Sunday. Then, they will close Monday morning. Meals, showers, a bed, and a pair of sleep clothes will be available for the men who are in need of their shelter this weekend. 1714 S 4th St. Shelter open for men only.

If you must drive in a storm:

Remember, the leading cause of death during winter storms is vehicle crashes. If at all possible, stay home during winter storms. If you know you will need to travel, prepare your vehicle and know how to react if you are stranded on the road.

Check your local weather, as well as the weather along your route and at your destination. Check local media for event closings and cancellations. Remember, conditions can deteriorate quickly in a winter storm.

Winter Storm Disaster Supply Kit:

A cell phone with extra battery or two-way radio

Windshield scraper and small broom for ice and snow removal

Several blankets or sleeping bags

Rain gear and extra sets of dry clothing, mittens, socks and a cap

Non-perishable snacks like canned fruit, nuts and other high energy “munchies.” ----Include non-electric can opener if necessary.

Several bottles of water. Eating snow will lower your body temperature. If necessary, melt it first.

A small sack of sand or kitty litter for generating traction under wheels and a set of tire chains or traction mats.

Jumper cables

A first aid kit

A flashlight with extra batteries

A brightly colored cloth to tie to the antenna if you get stranded.
