Public Utilities Director David Hunter said, “The public will get a chance to hear about the history of the green cart program and the current status. City staff will discuss challenges and future possible changes in the program and look for input from the public on the best way to move forward in a sustainable and equitable manner. This information will be brought back to the Commission at a future date.

City of Enid Solid Waste officials remind residents that the green yard waste collection has transitioned to the spring and summer schedule.

Residents are reminded to place the green polycart container at the curb no later than 7:30 a.m. on Mondays and at least four feet away from other containers, parked vehicles, street lampposts, trees, mailboxes and other obstructions.

The City-issued green polycarts are used for yard waste such as leaves, twigs, and grass. Green yard waste polycart containers will not be emptied if they contain household trash, due to yard waste being placed in a different field for composting.

The green polycarts may be purchased for a one-time fee of $60.00. The $60.00 fee will be charged to the resident’s water bill after they receive the container.

Those who wish to obtain a polycart or an additional polycart, can contact Solid Waste Services at (580) 616-7300.

Rules To Follow:

1. Always place the container at the curb no later than 7:30 am on your collection day.

2. Make sure you set your cart at the edge of your property next to the street, wheels above the curb, with the handle facing your home.

3. Leave at least ten feet of clearance from other containers, parked vehicles, street and lampposts, trees, mailboxes and other obstructions.

4. Place un-bagged grass clippings and small yard waste in the cart.

5. Return container to side of house after it is emptied.

Avoid The Following:

1. Put any liquids, especially motor oil, gasoline, anti-freeze or paint in your poly-cart.

2. Put hot ashes in the container.

3. Put soil, sand, branches of any size, bricks, concrete, building material, auto parts, scrap metal, tires, and dead animals in the cart.

4. Leave container in the street after your pick up day.

Trash items placed outside of the containers will not be picked up.

1: Lower home temps at bedtime.

Before bedtime, turn the temperature in the house down quite low. Climb into warm beds with plenty of blankets and wear warm pajamas.

2: Dress warmly around the house.

Dress in warm, comfortable clothes around the house. Dress in layers in case you get warm or cold.

3: Closing off rooms.

Close the doors and vents in unused rooms for the winter. Be aware of rooms with plumbing in case the pipes freeze.

4: Have blankets available in every room.

Have two or three blankets sitting around that are easily available just to grab if you feel cold. Pile them around you if you get cold.

5: Make sure windows are sealed.

Check the windows in your house. See if you can feel any exceptionally cool air coming in. If so, seal them.

6: Make sure doors have weather strips.

Look for big leaks along the edges of the doors in your home, particularly along the bottom. Adding a weatherstrip.

7: Add draft blockers to doors.

Block a big draft at the bottom of a door with a large piece of cloth. A rolled-up blanket will work fine.

8: Run ceiling fans on low in a clockwise direction.

Run your ceiling fan on low with the blades running in a clockwise direction to pull air upward, which pushes the air sitting on the ceiling down along the walls.

9: Eat warm meals.

Eat warm meals cooked in the home They will elevate your internal temperature. Cooking also contributes heat to your house.

10: Take warm showers or baths.

A hot shower or a warm bath will make you feel much warmer on a cold day. Have a thick towel to dry off with and a warm robe to slip on after getting out.

11: Wear house slippers.

If your feet are cold you'll feel cold. Keep your feet warm with comfortable house slippers and socks.

12: Wear a hat.

Wear a hat around the house during the day. It keeps your ears and your head really warm.

13: Drink warm beverages.

Drink coffee or hot cider or hot tea during the day on cold day. It will help warm you from the inside out.

14: Move around, or exercise.

Simply moving around helps keep you warm. Do housework that involves moving around, or even do some basic exercises like walking up and down the stairs.

15: Minimize the time doors are open.

Keep doors closed as much as possible. Cold air can rush in quicker than you might think.

16: Cover windows that don’t face sunlight.

Windows that aren’t exposed to sunlight should be covered with blinds or curtains. This helps block out any extra cold. Windows with sunlight will let in extra heat.

17: Spend time together in the same room.

Sit close to other people. Stay in the same room with the people in your home so that your ambient body heat helps keep them warm, too.

18: Take hot water to bed.

Fill up a water bottle with really warm water and toss it under the covers of your bed just before you get into bed.

19: Have warm things near your bed.

Keep slippers, robes, hoodies and other warm clothes beside your bed. Put them on when you get up!

20: Move furniture away from vents, registers, and radiators.

Move furniture blocking the flow of heat into the room. This wastes money and leads to cold rooms.

They offer on-site management, 24-hour emergency maintenance, storm shelter, pest control and surface parking with spaces directly in front of all buildings.

The community was developed through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program. This program is designed to offer affordable housing to only those individuals who meet specific income requirements. To qualify, an applicant’s anticipated 2020 income must fall below the maximum household incomes shown in the chart. Apartment selection and rent amount is determined based on the applicants qualifying AMI % and unit availability.

Grapple trucks will run each Monday throughout the month of October to pick up bulk trash, brush, and debris as part of the neighborhood beautification campaign within Ward 3. This cleanup project will be a free service to all residents within Ward 3.

Guidelines for “Operation Cleanup”

*Bulk trash and brush/debris must be placed 10 feet within the curb in the front of the residence.
*Keep trash and brush/debris piles 10 feet away from objects (e.g. mailboxes, water meters, sprinklers, cars, basketball goals).
*Keep trash and brush/debris in separate piles, as well as 10 feet away from each other.
*Do not place trash under any low hanging trees or powerlines.

The City currently plans to continue “Operation Cleanup” into Ward 4 later this year and Ward 5 in February 2021, weather permitting. Upcoming ward cleanup projects will be announced in the future.
