Enid, OK, April 8, 2026 - Scott Cloud, Northern Oklahoma College

Northern Oklahoma College Enid has hired Josh Quintero as the new Jets Cheer Coach for the 2026-2027 school year.

The cheer program was officially reinstated in December and will return for the 2026-27 academic year.

NOC Athletic Director Alan Foster announced the hiring this week.

“I am excited to welcome Josh back to the NOC coaching family,” Foster said. “He did a great job with our program before and I believe that he will continue to do great things as we enter this new chapter of competitive cheer. I look forward to his return.”

Quintero is no stranger to NOC Enid. He previously served as cheer coach for 10 years before the program was dropped in 2023. During that time, he led the Jets to four national championships.

“Bringing cheerleading back to NOC Enid isn’t just about a program, it’s about restoring opportunity,” Quintero said. “It’s about giving athletes a path to continue their passion for cheer, while earning an education, and be part of something bigger. With a championship culture already in place with four National Championships, we’re excited to build on that legacy and create something special for this community.”

He added, “NOC Enid has a championship culture in all their sports and now we get to help support these teams as we try to bring more championships back to Enid.”

Quintero grew up in west Texas and cheered for five years on the Small Coed Cheer Team at West Texas A&M University. He also served as a head instructor for the Universal Cheerleaders Association, spending many summers teaching junior high and high school cheer camps across the country. While working with Varsity, he also helped create some of the largest cheer competitions in the nation that are still operating today.

Quintero and his wife, Missy, own and coach Spirit Express in Enid. Over the years, he has served on several cheerleading boards, including the Oklahoma Cheer Coaches Association for high school cheerleading. In 2009, he was named one of the Top 30 Coaches Under 30 in the cheer industry by CheerCon. He has also helped develop some of the safety standards still used in cheerleading today.

Through Spirit Express, the Quinteros have won multiple state, regional, and national titles with both their all-star teams and high school teams.

Quintero also owns Freedom Spirit Championships, where he runs some of the top cheerleading competitions for all-star and school teams.

A native of Amarillo, Texas, Quintero graduated from Amarillo High School and earned his degree from West Texas A&M University.

His last day will be October 30.

After 55 years with EPS Garrison said it’s time.

“I have enjoyed working for Enid Public Schools for my entire education working career,” said Garrison. “It has been a pleasure working for many outstanding superintendents including Dr. Darrow and my immediate supervisor Dr. Sam Robinson.”

Garrison, a 1967 EHS graduate, began his career with EPS as a teacher and coach in 1971 at EHS and after five years of coaching he went on to be the assistant principal of EHS. After five years there he served as the Emerson Middle School principal for 10 and half years. In 1991 he became the head principal at EHS and served for six years. He has been the Director of Property Services for the district since 1997. Garrison is the only EHS graduate to serve as a principal of EHS to date.

Dr. Dudley Darrow, superintendent, is reluctant to see Garrison leave but understands after so many dedicated years why he would make the decision.

“Very few, if any, have given more to Enid Public Schools than Mr. Ron Garrison,” said Darrow. “Mr. Garrison’s 55 years of service to EPS is truly amazing, and hard to comprehend. During my career professionally, Mr. Garrison has been a wonderful mentor to me, and I wish him nothing but the best moving forward.”

Garrison was inducted into the EPS Foundation Hall of Fame in 2021 and was a member of the Plainsmen Football team to win state championships in 1964, 1965, and 1966.

His duties will begin immediately.

"I am very excited to see Coach Irving join our Plainsmen Basketball program as head coach,” said Robb Mills, athletic director. “His ability to build strong, positive relationships with our athletes will undoubtedly foster greater confidence in our players' abilities."

Irving has been with EPS since 2023, where he began his education career with the district as a PE Teacher at Emerson Middle School and as the Head Freshman Coach/Varsity Assistant at Enid High School. In year two he was elevated to the Head Varsity Assistant/Head Coach Junior Varsity.

Over the last three summers Coach Irving has been entrenched in the Amateur Athletic Union basketball community as the Head Boy’s Coach and Director of Player Development & Recruiting for Legacy Youth Basketball in Enid. His responsibilities include designing and executing practice and game plans, running weekly skill workouts, coaching boys grade 8 -12, etc.

Irving also has experience with youth outreach outside of Enid. Helping over 100 high school and junior college basketball players gain college opportunities at the next level through his recruiting service, Aspiring Prospects. Originally from New York City, “Coach Irv” as he is affectionately called by Enid students, formerly coached on the junior college level with ASA College in Brooklyn, NY and on the prep school level with Tennessee Preparatory Academy in Memphis, TN & OnPoint Academy in El Reno, OK.

“Basketball has the power to bring a community together, and I’m committed to leading a program our school and town can be proud of,” said Irving. “We will compete with heart, play with pride, and hold ourselves to the highest standard every practice, every game, every day.”

“Basketball is more than a game… it's a classroom for life,” said Irving, “My goal is to help our players grow not just as athletes, but as leaders, teammates and people ready to face any challenge.”

ENID, Okla. – Former Autry Technology Center Welding Technology student John Pethoud has been named one of the nation’s top 13 welders competing for the chance to represent the United States at the 2026 WorldSkills Competition in Shanghai, China.

Pethoud, who completed Autry Tech’s Welding Technology program under the instruction of Ryland Stonehocker, will advance to the final phase of the U.S. selection process later this year. The event is sponsored by the American Welding Society (AWS) and brings together the best young welders from across the country to test their skills in precision, speed, and quality.

Pethoud’s proven track record in competition helped earn him his spot among the finalists — including placing second at the National SkillsUSA Welding Competition two years ago. His performance at that level demonstrated the advanced skills, precision, and composure under pressure required to compete on the world stage.

Only one competitor will earn the right to represent the United States in Shanghai, joining more than 1,500 participants from over 60 countries competing in more than 60 skill categories. If selected as the top candidate, Pethoud will also receive a $70,000 scholarship to further his training and career in welding.

“John’s achievement is a testament to his talent, dedication, and the exceptional training he received here at Autry Tech,” said Dwight R. Hughes, Superintendent/CEO of Autry Technology Center. “We are incredibly proud to see one of our graduates competing on the world stage and demonstrating the high level of skill that CareerTech education can produce.”

Pethoud credits his success to the strong foundation he built at Autry Tech, where he learned advanced welding techniques and developed the problem-solving skills that set him apart in competition.

The WorldSkills Competition, often referred to as the “Skills Olympics,” is the largest international vocational skills event, promoting the value of skilled trades and showcasing the world’s top talent in industries ranging from manufacturing to technology.

ENID, OK - Enid Public Schools is thrilled to announce they have qualified for a program through the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students enrolled beginning August 2025 through May of 2029.

EPS administration has been working on securing the program for Enid Public Schools for several months and received confirmation of being a recipient earlier this month. Students receiving meals at no charge must be enrolled at any EPS school site for the next four school years. The district may reapply to continue participation beyond 2029.

The program is known as the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) and is for schools participating in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs (NSLP). The NSLP is a federally assisted meal program that provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunches to children each school day.

“We are thrilled to offer free breakfast and lunch to all students in our district,” said Kelly Craig, EPS Child Nutrition Director. “This program helps ensure that every child starts the day ready to learn, without the worry of hunger. Also, with the reduction in paperwork, this will let us focus on providing nutritional meals to our students."

Families will receive a letter from the district confirming their students as eligible to receive free meals for this coming school year. No further action will be required for families.

Families will not be required to submit a free and reduced meal application.

“Eighty percent of EPS students qualify for free and reduced meals,” said Dr. Dudley Darrow, superintendent. “Our staff has been working hard the last few months to make this happen and this should be incredibly impactful to the Enid community. We are happy to provide this support to our families.”

The show, Inspired, will be on May 6 in the EPS board room, 500 S. Independence, from 3-6 p.m. Attendance is free.

Due to generous grants provided by Enid Arts Council (EAC) and Park Avenue Thrift, EPS educators have been able to expand elementary art in the classroom, incorporating different styles and mediums into every day curriculum.

For 20 years EPS has partnered with the EAC through the Kennedy Center Partners in Education program. These collaborative efforts have provided fine arts education opportunities for EPS students and teachers. This year’s collaboration added local artists who shared their knowledge and talents with elementary teachers. Teachers then took what they learned back to the classroom. The elementary art show, Inspired, allows the opportunity to share the creativity and talents of students with the Enid community.

“This program was made possible by the generosity of the Enid community. In addition to EAC, we had the opportunity to work with North Garland Church of Christ. They donated the use of their facility for teachers to work with local artists and learn about the various mediums and artistry that will be on display,” said Elementary Curriculum Director Kristen Jones. “We are continually thankful for the support of so many who wish to see more fine arts in EPS classrooms!”

Local artists that worked with EPS teachers are: Traci Layton Conrady, Freelance Artist; Sydney Cross, Freelance Artist; Dawn Muncy, Muncy Photography; and Sharon Sudduth, Sharon Sudduth Art.

From drawings to paintings to sculpture, EPS is thrilled to be sharing work from elementary students all over the district.

Families must enroll students online at www.enidpublicschools.org/enrollment. Enrollment will open on April 1 and will be completed exclusively online. Guardians enrolling their children as EPS students for the first time will need the children’s immunization record, birth certificate (no hospital footprints, please) and verification of address, such as a utility bill.

Enrollment is first come, first served. Randy Rader, Assistant Superintendent of Elementary Education, expressed the crucial need for guardians to enroll their students as soon as possible.

“We are thrilled every year to welcome our newest, youngest learners to EPS,” said Rader. “We pride ourselves in meeting the needs of all families but are also conscientious of our staffing needs. We encourage all families to enroll as soon as they can so we can place students and continue to serve families by having sites staffed adequately.”

Families who do not have access to a device to complete enrollment online are encouraged to make an appointment with the EPS Welcome Center at www.enidpublicschools.org/appointments. They are located at 500 S. Independence and will have appointments available between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. beginning April 1. Resources and assistance will be available.

All EPS four-year-old programs focus on the social, academic, physical and emotional needs of children. Students must be four-years-old on or before September 1, 2025.

Beginning May 5, enrollment for all students who are new to EPS will be open to families online. Parents should enroll their student online at www.enidpublicschools.org/enrollment or schedule an appointment with the Welcome Center at www.enidpublicschools.org/appointments. Online enrollment will be open May 5.

Students must be five-years-old on or before Sept. 1, 2025 to enroll. If a child is currently an EPS pre-kindergarten student, it is not necessary to attend kindergarten enrollment because their school will send out pre-enrollment for kindergarten via call, text or email.
