Public Hearing For Soccer Complex Funding

ENID, OK - NOTICE is hereby given that the City of Enid will hold a public hearing on its request for outdoor soccer recreation facilities funding from the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, Land and Water Conservation Fund. All interested residents are encouraged to attend to discuss and provide input regarding project details.
-
The hearing will be held at 5:00 P.M. on July 15, 2019, in the Lower Level Conference Room of the City of Enid Administration Building, 401 West Owen K. Garriott Road, Enid, Oklahoma 73701.
-
For additional information, contact Stephanie Moffitt, Grant Resource Manager, City of Enid (580)616-7211 or email scarr@enid.org.
-
Construction has begun on the new Soccer Complex at the intersection of Rupe and Garland. It will soon host at least 7 soccer fields with irrigation, lighting, sidewalks, and more. See updates on their Facebook page.
-
One of the biggest sports complaints in Enid is the current location of the soccer complex. During heavy rains the fields fill with water and are unusable due to the fact that the complex is located in a water retention area.
-
Currently over 1,000 kids play soccer in the Enid area. Due to the nature of the current soccer complex Enid is unable to host tournaments with outside teams which means the city is losing those tax dollars that could be spent here rather than in other cities.
-
Local donors have contributed enough  funds to begin work on the new soccer complex. $3 million dollars has already been committed to the project from private donations. City Manager Jerald Gilbert has said a series of improvements is planned by city officials for a number of years — roughly $1 million each year for three years — related to the complex.
-
The complex will host 7 full size soccer fields that can be divided into smaller fields for all age groups. Perimeter parking and internal sidewalks allow accessibility in all directions. Restroom facilities and a playground is centrally located providing a family-friendly atmosphere.
-
Jessica Nelson, Director for the Enid Sports Association, said she would like to see at least 6 soccer tournaments in Enid each year. With tournament costs, hotels and food, the City of Enid could earn $255,000 in additional sales tax each year.

Bathrooms that are easily accessed would be nice and no sunken soccer field that grandparents are not able to access please.
