Beginning in August, motorists will notice significant changes to the Willow Road and Oakwood Road intersection. Beginning Tuesday, August 2nd, Oakwood Road will be closed on the north side and south side of the Willow Road intersection. Willow Road will remain open. The south side of the intersection will reopen Thursday, August 4th. The north side of the intersection will reopen Tuesday, August 9, 2011. This closing is due to storm sewer construction in preparation for the intersection widening project.
When the intersection reopens the traffic signals at the Willow Road and Oakwood Road intersection will be removed and a four-way stop sign will replace the signals due to the construction. Traffic is urged to be aware and obey the stop signs when installed. The stop signs will remain in place for approximately 30 days, when new signals will be installed.
Southbound Oakwood Road traffic will be detoured at Purdue Avenue to Cleveland Street. Northbound Oakwood Road traffic will be detoured at Chestnut Avenue to Cleveland Street.
Citizens should also note that the speed limit has changed from 45 MPH to 35 MPH approximately 1000 feet from all the approaches of the intersection. Motorist are urged to use an alternate route and to use extreme caution whenever entering any construction zone.
