Stephen Lane Crawford

The celebration of life service for Steve will be at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger~Hinson Funeral Home.

Stephen Lane Crawford was born in Enid December 23, 1950 to Claura (Weber) Crawford and Harold S. Crawford. He attended Enid schools, graduating from Enid High in 1969. He went on to graduate from OSU in 1974 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration.

In 1975, he married Debra K. Bowen and later that year, Melissa Dawn was born. They divorced after 15 years. Steve worked for over 25 years for the U.S. Postal Service. Almost all of those years he spent on a walking route, enjoying fudge and peanut brittle courtesy of the nice ladies on his route. Through the years, he enjoyed watching football, fishing, coin collecting and taking bus trips to the casino until his knees prevented him getting around. Steve never met a stranger. He loved to share stories and talk about interesting things he read about or watched on TV. He was a movie buff and was not afraid to see a movie alone if he didn’t have a grandkid available to go with him. After his retirement in 2005, he began his favorite and most fulfilling job, that of full-time Papa. He was always just a phone call away for any of his grandkids. He loved watching them play sports and perform in school programs. Just a few days before he passed away, he got to watch his oldest grandchild graduate from NOC.

Steve is survived by a brother, Fred Crawford and wife, Karen of OKC; brother-in-law Karstan Elsaesser of Seattle, WA; daughter, Melissa Harves and husband, Shane of Carrier; grandchildren, Chelsey Harves and boyfriend, Jake Coleman; Raychel Harves and Garrett Harves; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by many who called him Papa, those he considered family: Christina and Josh Webber of Pond Creek and their children, Alysia Wallace of Merritt Island, FL and Auston and Kydon Webber of Pond Creek. Also the Chisholm High School girls softball team, his snacks will be missed!

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sharon.
